We arrived in Banner Elk late and in the middle of snow coming down in April. Every place was pretty much closed except the bar part of this restaurant. The manager on duty was very accommodating and opened up a spot in the closed dining section, after we realized the bar was playing really loud (but good music). We love music but after a long day of driving we were just tired and wanted to relax. Definitely sounded like a fun place if you were wanting to go hang out at night. The whole place was decorated really nice with beautiful paintings, especially the dining area. I felt bad that they opened up a table just for us but the staff never once made us feel like we were a bother. Our waitress, Jordan Y., was excellent and very personable. She was younger but very professional and a joy to talk with while we enjoyed our delicious meal. My husband had the Veal Parm and I enjoyed the crab cakes. Both were great and we were so thankful for being able to eat a wonderful meal so last minute and late. Would highly recommend!

This meal was possibly one of the best meals I've ever had in the United States. From the crispy Brussels sprouts appetizer to the grilled ceaser salad the entree's the wine the pork was tremendous the crispy duck was tremendous the pasta with mushroom sauce delicious we had extra shrimp added amazing the flaming dessert the wine everything was reasonably priced that music was charning - I cannot recommend it more strongly.

Decided to try Primo since it use to be Barra (sports bar). So glad we did. We loved our meal & evening here. Drinks were amazing. Our waiter was attentive & friendly. Loved the chandeliers. The salad we shared was a great size & delicious. The garlic knots are addictive! Our meals were delicious. Even had dessert - tiramisu was perfect. We are thinking that we will dine here way more often than when it was Barra.

If you’re on the fence about visiting please read this review first. This is a review of the integrity of the owners and related family. Honestly I can’t rate the food because we didn’t get that far. But long story short, after a weird initial conversation with one hostess, another hostess Ava (who we later found out is the daughter of the owners) thought it was a good idea to state “you guys have your hands full”. This was said to my sisters but directed at my mother. I was walking to the table with my mother about 10 feet ahead of my sisters but the words pierced my ears. My sisters walked to the table in shock and I immediately lost my appetite. I got up from the table 3 minutes later to speak to the manager. The best part is she was unable to do anything because the 20ish year old hostess outranked her. Not only was this absolutely absurd but she had to allow the hostess to lie and argue with customers. I rarely bother writing review but considering the horrible experience we just had it felt wrong to not share. Again this a testament to the owners family. I refuse to give my money or time to nasty people with ugly souls. Whether it’s a janitor or a CEO you should treat people with the same level of respect. I hope your experience is better and I’m sure the food is good but unfortunately my appetite was ruined. (Side note: This is another testament to the integrity of the owners. The restaurant doesn’t allow you to leave bad reviews. The only reason I could write this is because I lied and clicked the good review button on...

Our experience at Sorrentos over the past few months has significantly deteriorated. Our experience tonight (8/2) is an apt example.

We sat at the bar Saturday at about 6pm for a bottle of wine and a pizza. The server behind the bar took our wine order, put two glasses out and the bottle of white wine and then turned to take a phone order. She stayed on the phone for at least 5 minutes. She then moved on to other tasks, including serving another couple at the bar for at least 10 minutes.

So we opened the wine (screw cap) and served ourselves. After a few more minutes we intercepted her to order our pizza. The pizza was delivered in an appropriate amount of time and was the usual tasty pizza.

But we were not offered the customary garlic bread, were not offered a cooler for the wine, heard no acknowledgement for the substandard service and were not thanked for our patronage when we left.

We have been regular customers at Sorrentos but tonight may have convinced us to no longer eat there. The quality of service has deteriorated...

My wife and I made a spontaneous decision to get some dinner while we were travelling through Banner Elk, NC, and ended up choosing to eat at Sorrento's Italian Bistro. From the moment we were seated, the experience was phenomenal. Our server was Connor, who made every effort to ensure that we had everything we needed, and that our appetizers and entrees were brought out quickly. Connor made sure to check in every so often as well to top of our drinks and to box up leftovers as we moved from dinner to dessert. The food itself was fantastic; the calamari was the best that I have had since moving to North Carolina, and the parmigiana was cooked expertly, with a bed of pasta that was delicious as well. Our cappuccinos and cannoli topped off the evening, and Connor even threw in a few extra garlic knots for our to go box, which was an unexpected treat when we got home. There was literally nothing that was wrong with our meal, our service, or the price for dinner, and I will most assuredly be back to eat at...
