tl;dr – go here. I will never forget this stop.
We had passed Sweet Pea's several times while exploring Acadia.. always noting how cute it looked from the road, how attractive the "Farm Café" subtitle was. Frustrated with how few vegan options the restaurants in town offered, we decided to give the place a try on a whim this evening – our last evening in the area. We knew we had made the right decision the moment we pulled in. A man was strumming a small string instrument near the entrance, and everyone we saw thereafter was in the very best of spirits. The host was respectful & professional, yet also friendly in a personal, familiar manner. We soon figured out the entire staff was this way... every single person working greeted us with more than just a hello. We were made family, made to feel at home instantly.
We had arrived at peak hours to what we were told would be a 45 minute wait. The daily specials posted out front (as well as the general cuteness of the structures & dining area) convinced us the wait would be worth it, and nothing could have been more true. This was the MOST enjoyable wait I have ever experienced at a restaurant. We sat around a lovely fire pit, ordered delicious drinks (extra points for having so many non-alcoholic offerings!), and chatted with all manner of friendly folk.
The best was yet to come, however... when we were eventually seated (I honestly do not know how much time passed, we were enjoying ourselves too much), the attractiveness of the small menu hit us with full force. More than reasonable prices on all locally farmed and sourced ingredients. We ended up ordering the chickpeas, olives, roasted veggies, farm greens, a special grilled Maine asparagus and a special pizza of the day... we couldn't help ourselves. And thank GOD we did not. The chickpeas were, without exaggeration, the most delicious order of any kind of food we had made for the full length of our stay in Maine. Unreal. The olives were warm and delightfully marinated – so satisfying! The veggies were fantastic, but the asparagus was on a whole 'nother level of delicious... and the PIZZA! Not vegan, but again all locally sourced ingredients. I had no idea pizza could taste so fresh, so comfortingly homemade... and we're from NY! Every bite, every sip was full of love and great energy.
I want to especially thank our server, whose name I believe was John – the man running the show. Unbelievably good vibes, extremely accommodating, and treated us with the same sort of familial energy as he did the regulars with whom we had been conversing. This man absolutely made our night, which is saying A LOT given the perfect view of a rising blood-moon and flurry of fireflies our table provided. Romantic, social, delicious, local... the most five stars a five star review can be. My singular disappointment was not having brought cash to more directly tip the crew. Bravissimo, Sweet Pea's. Thank you for such a wonderful experience – we hope to be back some day!...
Read moreWhen I say that Christian (and his team, John, Michelle, and others) went above and beyond for our small wedding celebration last weekend, I mean it. From separate passed appetizer plates prepared for the bride and groom to ensure we had bites of everything, to supplementing our decorations with their own candles and fresh cut flowers, it seemed like they could read our minds with what we wanted and what we needed.
When the night got cold, Christian pushed out hot apple cider for guests, and John made fresh French press decaf coffee for two guests (even bringing out his own roasted beans as a take-home gift for them). Blankets provided by Sweet Pea’s were a huge hit with guests, and were used all night long.
Communication leading up to the event (and during the event) was so easy. We dropped decorations off to Sweet Pea’s the day prior to the event; it was arranged perfectly and even organized for an easy take home after. During our event, servers made sure to introduce themselves to our one gluten free guest who got multiple separate appetizers (something we didn’t ask for, but was just done), and she remarked that this was the best wedding reception/dinner she had ever been to.
Not to mention, our food was incredible and guests raved all night long. When our guests ended the night tipsier than expected, Christian was quick to offer his catering van to bring guests back to our cottages down the road and insisted they could simply grab their cars the next day.
I cannot recommend Sweet Pea’s enough, and if I could give six stars I would. Thank you guys for the perfect end to a perfect...
Read moreWas able to try out Sweat Peas on our 2nd visit after not wanting to wait the previous time.
The lack of ability to make reservations was frustrating yet due to their busyness it was understandable.
We arrived for dinner at around 700PM on a Thursday evening. We thought we were going to have a 15 minute wait yet they got us in after 5 minutes
We were seated outside on a large table that was pleasantly big for 4. We were provided with blankets as it was a little chilly.
Overall service was immaculate and prompt with our appetizers brought out staged so we were just finishing one as another would arrive.
We tried a variety of the “to share” dishes and all were delicious. The beets were fresh with a great snap, grilled veggies were very well seasoned. The fried chickpeas were probably the highlight of the “too share” dishes.
After this we shared some wood fired oven pizza, and they arrived with a good char and a great carrot and olive oil dipping sauce.
We finished the evening with a strawberry tres-leche that was good without being overly sweet.
In general a great meal with fresh ingredients that very much wished I could eat every thing on the menu.
Prices were very reasonable compared to other restaurants in the Bar Harbor area.
Worth a visit yet be prepared to wait for a bit.
Recommended (family of 4 with boys that...
