Fat Larry's — Restaurant in Bartlett

Very good food. Not always the best service, though. They now have flavored tea, BUT they CHARGE you $1.00 EXTRA per drink!!! Every other restaurant gives you the flavor free. And it's a dollar extra on refills! Must be hurting for business, though you wouldn't guess it. While the food is good, it's not the best BBQ in Memphis, that Honor goes to Leonard's BBQ, where the pulled pork sandwiches were created! Update, we went there Thursday night. We were lead to the back corner, and then promptly forgotten. We had to get some other Server to get us menus and water. I told him that we had been here for Twenty minutes, (we arrived at 1735) and my Wife had to ask him for menus and water at 1755. I showed him the notes that I had been keeping. The Female Server loudly stated that we have NOT been waiting for twenty minutes. I have stayed before that the Servers leave a lot to be desired, and they do! The owner was in the back room with us and three other obviously intoxicated people as they were practically screaming at each other. This place is loud at the best of times, but this night it was just overwhelmingly loud! Good food, TERRIBLE service, ( almost non-existent). If you are in a hurry, go somewhere else! They have a sign above the register that says"Great tippers go to heaven!" But their Servers are from Hell! Our Server got a tip because he took care of us, even though we were not in his section. The older woman that was supposed to be our Server, well time for you to retire! I have been in the restaurant business for a long time, as I keep saying, and there is never a reason for terrible Service! Fat Larry's, take some time to talk to your Servers, train them better, hire more if they are too slow or just not able to handle the crowds that you are getting! Service Counts, bad Service counts against you! I can no longer recommend Fat Larry's! After Thursday night, I probably won't be coming back. It too bad Leonard's BBQ is so far away! They always have Great food...

They seem to have some consistent issues in the negative reviews that match with my most recent experience.

Its true - they "decide" to close randomly. Posted hours mean nothing. OK, I understand, but I also think you should scale back your hours if you don't want dinner crowds or don't want to pay your employees. I am fine taking my money elsewhere - just disappointed.

Servers - yup, they seem angry. Very angry. We have witnessed them getting into arguments with management right in the eating area. Felt bad for them. With Larry gone (RIP) now, they still seem angry so its not just him.

Food - hit or miss depending on what you order. Love the fresh pork rinds crackling as they reach the table HOT!

Drinks - good luck. Once you get your initial drink, you may or may not ever have another. I wanted to go right up to the fountain myself as its right there but that's usually where the servers are arguing over something dumb, like a boyfriend or other personal issue. Yes, we can hear you ladies...ALL your drama details.

Red flag - they have a sign at the front counter that says to check your to go order before you leave as they will not honor any claim afterward for missing items. WHAT? Check things before you hand it to the customer people...or at least make things right if you screw up. Especially hard to check when they seal the bags up before you get it.

I placed an online order for me and my fiancé. We ordered some fried pickles, 2 hush puppies, a cheeseburger combo and a brisket sandwich combo. I quickly checked my order and thought everything was in there but when I got home, I was missing everything for my burger. It came plain, with just cheese. I looked back at the menu and it stated that it came with typical fixings. I went back. The hostess was very quick to fix my issue and gave me a free piece of strawberry cake for my inconvenience which was nice. I got back home and warmed up my food. The hush puppies were very small but they tasted good. My fiancé said his brisket sandwich was just okay. The bottom was completely soggy. The seasoning on the fries were good but the fries themselves were crisp at all. The burger was actually really good. The cake was great too. The biggest downside to this was the fried pickles though. The outside looked so perfectly cooked. I was excited to try them. I bit into one and it was mostly batter and very wet on the inside? Color me confused. The pickles were so thin. The worst of it was paying $7.99 for just 8 of these pickles. You could’ve given me 20 of those pickles for that price and it still wouldn’t have...
