Paid $40 for a small seafood platter yesterday. Asked for half onion rings & half fries. Waiter said the chef replied "No. I'm not doing that today." (Had the place been busy, I would be understanding, but there was only one small group in the dining room, who already had their food when I sat down, and me -alonr.) So, I chose onion rings over fries and had to pay $2 extra. They were cheap, frozen, and very greasy. The platter consisted of 2 squares of fish (smaller than a deck of cards. I thought they were scollops), 2 scallops (one was very fishy and brought home for my cats), 4 teeny clams (small steamer clam size, with bellies the size of the top of my pinki finger), and a handful of tiny, popcorn shrimp with no flavor (all batter). The fish was breaded and cooked ok, but bland. I left there hungry. My waiter was training someone. They were both very nice, but I was seated in a booth, at the bar side, and their attention was at the table in the dining room side and training at the register. (They should have just seated me on that side. There was no one else in the place, except for 4 people drinking at the bar.) So, I had to wait to get their attention for drink refills (had 2 refills because they were mostly ice). Now, I understand that everything's expensive now, and that's caused prices to go up on menus, but there's a lot of price gauging going on, and the KT has a reputation for for it. If you want to charge $40 for a seafood platter, that's your prerogative, but, you sure all hell should make it a generous one. You also should be making your own onion rings (or, at least, buy a good brand and cook in hot oil), and people should be able to get half fries/rings for that price! Come on! That was my third, and last time eating there. I feel bad for tourists, who get sucked in to paying for such marginal food. [I had a lobster roll there once, that was overly expensive and *small. Another time, I had lobster bisque, with zero lobster meat, and a salad with sour/spoiled goat cheese (had to send it back (chef was pissed and sent it back saying there was nothing wrong with it, and when I didn't eat it, the waitress told me that I was lying because the bisque had filled me up, which was ridiculous. That was a couple of years ago, on St.Patrick's Day. I just thought that I'd give it one more try, since it was my birthday, every other place in town seemed busy, and I wanted a quiet dinner (with my husband out of town and being on my own).
LAST TIME! 3 STRIKES,...
Read moreWe have eaten here 5-6 times. The location is beautiful, right on the water. The food is mediocre -- the burgers are OK; however, we haven't found any other item on the menu we would order twice. This review though was actually sparked by one of the worst hospitality service experiences I've had in many years of worldly travels. We sat on the deck. Because it was sunny, we got permission to put up the umbrella. While enjoying a cold beer and after we had ordered, a kid who works there comes by and starts to put the umbrella down over us without any explanation. I objected and asked for our check and to see a manager, whereupon a heavy, bald manager with a beard comes out and furiously demands to put the umbrella down -- imagine an out-of-control drill sergeant -- I explained that we wanted to clarify because we had been told it was fine before the kids came by and just started taking it down. Enraged, the "manager' said the waitress was wrong and if it was left up it would blow away and hurt people (it was fixed through a table and anchored with 50 lbs of concrete in virtually no breeze). He then told us to go sit somewhere else (which ironically tuned out be better). As soon as he walked away, the waitress appeared and was a true professional -- she apologized profusely for the "managers" unprofessional behavior noting he should have never spoke to customers that way. We assured her it wasn't her fault but we'll be hard-pressed to return. The manager has no business being in hospitality and, now that I think of it, would probably be fired in any industry for behaving that way towards clients...
Read moreThe Maine Seafood Experience We Came For! When we planned our trip to Maine, we had one thing at the top of our list—fresh lobster and authentic New England seafood—and this spot absolutely delivered!
We kicked off our meal with drinks: a classic Painkiller cocktail and an Allagash White beer—both perfect for a sunny day by the water. From there, we ordered the crab cakes and clam chowder to start. The crab cakes were honestly some of the crabbiest we’ve ever had—in the best way! Packed with so much real crab meat, it barely seemed like there was anything else holding them together.
The chowder was thinner in consistency than what we’re used to, but the flavor was spot on—rich, savory, and full of that briny, coastal taste we love.
For our entrées, we went straight for the lobster. I had the hot lobster roll, and wow—it was overflowing with lobster meat. It might just be the most lobster I’ve ever had in a roll. Sweet, tender, and buttery—perfection!
My husband ordered the seafood pot pie, which came with a flaky golden crust hiding an entire lobster claw along with more lobster and haddock inside. Rich, hearty, and delicious.
We enjoyed our meal sitting outside by the water, soaking up the sunshine and coastal vibes. This was exactly the kind of seafood experience we came to Maine for—fresh, flavorful, and...
