A neat little pub and eatery in downtown Bath ME, stopped in for some local seafood flavor. This place has some history for sure, with atmosphere and decor to match. Appreciate the effort from the only waitress in the place, she tried... not sure what's wrong with people these days with nobody wanting to work. Started with a mixed greens salad and a cup of lobster soup. The soup wasn't bad but was really thin, I'm used to a bisque style with a heavier base. It did have some large lobster portions within. The stuffed haddock wasn't as good as expected, sauce was a little much and was baked until the edges were tough. It seemed to be standing in it own juices which is typically absorbed by the stuffing that was almost non existent. The cornmeal breading on the fish was different, not experienced that before and would vote to scrap that idea. I'll definately try somthing else if I make it back there. Neat place but wasn't impressed with my side of the table. However the captains platter across from me looked much better with a pile of fried haddock, clams and scallops.

We have gone through a few restaurants that say fresh seafood here in Maine but JR Maxwell's clearly has it down. The freshness and quality of their dishes stand out amongst many along the Maine coast. From clams, crab, oysters, scallops, haddock and of coarse lobster not a dish is bad. Broiled, baked, fried, or in a roll the flavors let the seafood stand out while highlighting the uniqueness of each fish. The salads are fresh and the house-made dressings were something to write home about. The batter for the fish was not dense and really let the seafood shine while giving it that extra crisp. The fresh whole lobster was cooked to perfection that no work was necessary to render the meat. But what needs not be forgotten is the fresh baked loaves of bread you get when you sit down. You know right away your meal is going to be great.

This is one of the busiest restaurants in the evening in bath. (Most of the town gets sleepy very early.) There's a good reason for that as the food is very good and the service is friendly. Their self proclaimed 'famous' French onion soup was good, that is expected just too much cheese on top for me. The stuffed lobster was pricey at $59, but delicious, even though there was no crab stuffing to be found as advertised. Having said that, the scallops stuffed inside were very, very good! We also enjoyed a baked haddock dish that was delicious. Although there are many separate dining areas, there is absolutely no social distancing so if that's something you're concerned about, you may want to take a look inside before settling down here. Reservations are recommended. Street parking located right out front.

Out of STATE visitors. 1ST time experience, and last. Will never be back. Restaurant came highly recommended, reviews looked amazing...But... Waitress, Amy, was horrible. Not attentive and not familiar with the menu. Many "need to find out" from her. Had many issues with multiple returns to the table at 10-20 minute intervals between kitchen issues and Amy not knowing. This went on for almost an hour. Multiple things not available even though it was on the menu. Couldn't guarantee gluten contamination between meals. Guests that arrived after us got their food well before us. After waiting 1 hr and 18 minutes for the food, We asked for the bill for just the drinks and appetizer we received because we had a show to get to. Not unreasonable, and was told "No problem". 15 minutes AFTER requesting our bill, the food comes out.The Waitress rushed to throw the food on the table, while we were telling her to stop and reminded her we cancelled our order and asked for the bill 15 minutes ago for the items we consumed that were at the table. Suddenly, it ALL needs to be paid for because the servers tray touched the table. We again, told the waitress we canceled the meal 15 minutes ago and only wanted the bill for the 1 leomande and the wings. Waitress makes a scene in a room full of guests, yelling at us. She then brings the manager over yelling, and the Manager makes a scene immediately claiming that we're trying to skip on the bill and threatens to call cops. I honestly should have asked he call the cops, but we needed to be somewhere. After trying to explain multiple times we were not trying to skip, we could have walked out if we wanted to skip, the manager decides that he's going to "graciously" discount the bill for food we cancelled 15 minutes before it came out, as if that was doing anyone a favor. We could not take the food with us as we did not have a place to store it or heat it up. We were visiting from out of STATE!

The service was absolutely APPALLING! The treatment from staff was disgraceful. I'm embarrassed for the owner of this establishment.

It should not have taken almost an hour and a half from my reservation (we showed up a few minutes prior to the reservation too) to get the food brought out after we wanted to leave. The staff should not have created such a scene, and treat us like criminals.

It looked like the room we were in had white cameras. I do hope the owner sees this and reviews the footage. I paid $55 cash for 1 lemonade for myself and a $12.95 wings appetizer for my guest.

If this is the proper way to run a business, shame on...

Hello, I’m a long time customer here as I’ve been going since I was a kid. The other night I ordered some takeout and was given a 10 minute wait over the phone. It seemed a little short to me so we waited about 20 minutes before we left since we live really close. However, when I came to pick it up, my food was not finished. I had to wait another 25 minutes after I showed up for the food to come out, so all together a 45 minute wait. The wait is fine if the food is good, but they also forgot my appetizer. So I had to remind them of it and wait some more. The bun was not vegan on the beyond burger so we asked for it to be on lettuce and it showed up as just a plain patty on a small bed of mixed greens, no slice of tomato, onions, or even a pickle. It was so sad looking, a brown puck sitting on top of some bag lettuce. That was very disappointing. I only got 6 shrimp in my appetizer which was honestly not a lot for how much it was. The only thing that was passable was my fish but it was okay, not too good, it was cold. Everything was cold actually. I hope this was just a bad night, but I overheard some real miscommunication in the kitchen about food timing and getting orders together. That might be part of the reason. But I mean, I hate to say it, me and my girlfriend were both very disappointed in our meal and for almost $50 I think it’s a bit justified. At this current time, I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. I expressed this experience to the restaurant privately on FB but was unfortunately...

New to the area and was told this place is a hit or miss… definitely a miss in our books. Crab cakes were delicious, the tarter sauce that comes with was great! However my entree being the Seafood Melody not only didn’t come with crab (and was not told they ran out of crab till after getting the meal & eating) was also pretty watery and non seasoned. The scallops and shrimp however were beautiful and yummy. I did ask our friendly waitress about the crab and in return of the mistake got free dessert to go. We appreciate the kindness to fix the error. My partner got the 10 oz NY steak cooked to perfection in his opinion but his French fries were pretty much cold and soggy. We both got a side of mashed potatoes as well and both felt that it was also pretty much cold (essentially just felt that it was microwaved quick but didn’t warm it all the way) I didn’t complain about the coldness because I already spoke up about the crab being missing and wasn’t looking to be a negative Nancy. Over all was not great, I felt that I could have gotten a better meal somewhere else especially for the price. Almost $90 for mediocre food. Yes I do know we chose 2 expensive entrees and an expensive appetizer but we would have been fine with the price if the food was hot and good. We still had a great waitress and made our visit short and quick. So as everyone else has told me I’ll tell you this… it’s a hit or...
