This place has a great vibe, great/friendly service, and really good food/drinks. 👍 Visiting Bath, walking around downtown, cool sign outside so stopped in to see if they were open on a Sunday and they said live music at 5...we said see ya then.
Quaint inside with a prominent raw bar (makes sense based on the name) but the singer was out on the back deck with picnic tables and Adirondack chairs. Brought water and menus straight away but you order inside and they deliver.
Tons of craft beer and clever cocktails to choose from. Beers to start along with the Sea Cute Erie and lobster sliders. They were out of crab so we were offered some options and super glad we chose the pollock dip...awesome smokey flavor that hit perfectly with a Ritz (or try it on a cape cod chip). The lobster, shrimp, and oysters were really fresh and flavorful. The lobster sliders were on a nice fresh brioche roll with chips which we also used for the platter.
Round 2. Gotta try some caviar...we did salmon. Always fun and yes more cape cod chips as a vessel.
Music ended, last call, and we called it a night. The best experiences are when you stumble on a place with character and great people creating a welcoming environment plus you might get lucky and hear a singer/songwriter playing cool original tunes...if ever in Bath, ME...stop by this place for some raw bar, craft beers, and...
Read moreOystHERS is the kind of place I almost hesitate to write a review for, because it’s so good, I want it to myself.
The vibe is…outstanding. Riverfront location with fish jumping, boats coming and going, and inside/outside/porch seating; tons of parking available in the area; and interesting, funky decor. The people are friendly, helpful, and all over your seafood needs.
The menu is…significant. The boards are generous; we had the ‘Up North’ and it worked well as a starter for four of us, more than the 2-3 promised. Then, one of us had lobster sliders (I snuck a bite and they were wicked decent with the amount of lobster meat - delicious.). The others of us got down on two dozen oysters in a flight. All were from Maine (why bother with oysters from anywhere else?!?), from Casco Bay up to Deer Isle - no Damariscotta oysters, but I’m not complaining - I get those guys all the time. They ranged from brinier to sweeter, all were really good.
The drink list is similarly lengthy with some very interesting (in a good way) wines, enjoyed by two of our party; I opted for an Italian style Pilsner, Oxbow Luppolo, brewed just up the road and perfectly crisp. The mocktail list looks outstanding, and next time I’m there, which will be soon, you’ll find me with a glass of vermouth, for sure.
OystHERS embraces the interesting throughout their menu, and I. Am....
Read moreI couldn't find a single thing to criticize about this place if I tried, not that I'm trying.
We came in visiting from Seattle, which has its own massive seafood scene, so we've had plenty of exposure to great oysters - and I can confidently say these are GREAT oysters. The OystHERS, the ones they cultivate themselves, are the best of the bunch. We all shared a small sampling of the menu, and the charcuterie boards are on point.
We've been in Maine for the last week, we've had plenty of seafood stews and soups and bisques, and Nana's lobster stew is the absolute best we've had so far. It's so good that our party went back and ordered more after trying it. Don't get me wrong, all the stews we've had have been good - but most have been so rich it feels like drinking butter. The stew here is delicious, well balanced, and doesn't leave you feeling heavy and sluggish after eating.
The sisters who run the place are wonderful, too. We felt right at home from the moment we walked in. They're awesome, welcoming people and it's clear this place is their passion. They've got an amazing location right on the water, with beautiful views and comfortable seating with indoor and outdoor options.
Finding this spot was a pleasant surprise and a real highlight of our trip. If we were local we'd be in here all the time. Highly, highly...
