We booked the Inn for a 5 night stay with our two little dogs, 3 weeks prior to our intended arrival. We were immediately charged 50% and as my husband is a dialysis patient, I explained to Jacqui that there might be need to cancel on short notice and I wanted to make sure our options to cancel were crystal clear. We were okay with the terms.
My husband and I were excited to stay at the Inn, as we had passed by and looked in on a previous stay in Bath, and although our room choices were limited to two, because of the dogs, we took the lower "Garden Room", which looked like it would be perfect for our needs.
On check-in the room was chilly, but when I pushed the old-fashioned thermostat up, the blower came on within a couple of minutes and the room soon felt comfortable, although unfortunately the mattress on the bed left much to be desired. The next morning we were out at 5:30am and we had been left a packed breakfast of two boiled eggs each and a couple of small blueberry muffins. We could access the coffee machine in the kitchen, so had a hot drink before heading out, which was much appreciated. On our return that evening the room was very cold and after turning back up the thermostat, nothing happened and I had to call Jacqui and ask for help. She suggested we light a fire in the fireplace, which was not the answer we were looking for. She finally came to the room and suggested some part of her system had failed and that she could fix that in the morning and now would turn on the furnace so it overrode the system and although it would stay on all night, at least we would be warm. We ended up falling asleep with our clothes and coats on as the room didn't warm up till well into the midnight hour. We stayed for breakfast that second morning and I spoke to Jacqui about the heat, which she assured me she would take care of and after an odd breakfast, odd because we were not asked what we could, or could not eat, we left again for the day and the evening.
We returned at about 9pm and again, the room was ice cold and damp after the rainy day. The thermostat dialed up, gave us no result at all. The blower stayed off and nothing happened. A call to Jacqui informed us she couldn't come and check the room, and she was sure the system was working fine, as she had checked her monitor all day and it showed all was okay. I insisted she come to the room, but she refused, saying she was busy making us breakfast. I then told her we would have to leave at once, as neither of us could sleep in a room where the reading was between 54F ad 58F and to subject a septuagenarian and octogenarian to those temperatures was not acceptable. Her response was one for the books, "well, the room description says it's rustic. Take the blanket off the shelf and light a fire!" The blanket was a little cotton one and the fire had two logs left over from the one lit the night before.
We packed and left and the next day the battle started: Jacqui was not prepared to refund us the two cold nights and insisted we 'take a bath' on the expense as we were canceling early! She finally offered to 'make good' by giving us only a partial refund of the nights stayed as we hadn't complained. Seriously?! Taking this to the Maine tourist office, as well as the government offices who enforce the laws. Even Inns and B&Bs have to provide...
Read moreOur 2 nights at the Inn at Bath were extraordinary. It all started with booking with Jackie over the phone - she was very friendly, excited, and asked our coffee/tea morning preferences. Her booking confirmation email is very helpful to plan your day - most notable check-in and breakfast information!
There is a wonderful side parking lot to accommodate several guest cars - it might be a smidgen tight for big vehicles like trucks but there is also street parking nearby!
Jackie helped us to our room during check in and gave some helpful tips and requests to make our stay so comfy. The Garden room was beautifully decorated and including a relaxing full sized tub. Although rainy during our visit, it is closest to the outdoor patio space to enjoy! After sharing about the room, Jackie gave us some amazing recommendations for restaurants and things to do that we very much used throughout our time in the greater Bath area!
Jackie’s breakfast was hearty, delicious, and locally sourced - the breakfast frittata and potatoes were so yummy! She respectfully tries to seat groups throughout the morning so that no one is crowded - allowing you to meet fellow travelers or keep to yourself as fits your morning preferences. She also gave us more suggestions for our 2nd day of adventures and again they did not disappoint! She left us a very yummy takeaway breakfast for our last morning as sadly we had to depart for our flight before breakfast.
At every turn, Jackie and the Inn at Bath made for such a memorable experience. We would love to come back someday and we...
Read moreStaying at the Inn at Bath was an amazing experience! The house is located on quiet and lovely street in the town of Bath. I was able to walk down the street to my family‘s house and even into town. The room was beautifully And thoughtfully decorated, and I felt so at home there that I almost forgot to lock my door :). I felt like I was saying at a dear friend‘s house, and I was so cozy and happy there. The house had wonderful historic character, but also modern conveniences. Kelly, The owner, has literally thought of everything and made my stay feel magical. When I told her that I was flying into Portland to come to a wedding on the same day and thought I would take an Uber from the airport, She kindly informed me that it was actually pretty challenging to find an Uber to go to Bath And she managed to find an alternate ride for me. Thanks to that logistical help, I was able to fly in and still make it to the wedding on time then, Kelly Took it upon herself to give me a ride back to the airport when my trip was complete. I Eat a vegan diet and she asked me a bunch of questions before I visited so that she could take the time to make a delicious gluten-free and vegan homeade breakfast for me In the morning. Once again, I felt like I was staying at a dear friend‘s beautiful house. Truly, this place deserves more than five stars! I highly recommend it to anyone visiting bath or surrounding areas in Maine....
