As a customer that comes here regularly, it extremely upsets me when poor customer service is being displayed. I had a salad and entree at this restaurant. Both the salad and entree contained a piece of hair. The salad was replaced. The entree was only taking off the bill. I was not compensated for it. The owner nor did the kitchen manager compensate me for my meal which I did not complete due to finding another hair follicle in my entree. I was told that I am able to purchase a new entree if I wanted anything else to eat.Everyone please double check your plates when you go to this restaurant. They don’t seem bothered about presenting poor customer service, so be careful

Cafe Americain is known for their soup, its served with lump crab meat and tender broccoli, accompanied by a sweet and savory cream sauce. I have been coming here for years and find the rest of the menu is a mixed bag. The pastas, and boiled shrimp, are quite good but the fried dishes are a bit inconsistent at times. Mostly due to a lack of seasoning or their being undercooked. Service is always excellent and the dessert cooler has good offerings to satisfy your sweet tooth. Definitely try their soup, the rest is a toss up.

9/21/24 Came here for the first time approximately around 1 The food was absolutely delicious! If you haven't been here, please come to try them. I am new to Baton Rouge, LA, and so far, a lot of the places have really disappointed me, but this place makes up for them all!!!!! I can't wait to come back. I will be a regular. The crab and broc soup: 10/10!!!! No skimping here! The real deal!!!! The turkey Gouda burger and the onion rings were a 10/10, too! THANK YOU, CAFE' AMERICAIN!

There was a time when I ate her often, but it had been a while since I've been here, so my sister and her husband came here for brunch, she came back and told me how much she really enjoyed the food and drinks and service was great and she wanted us girls to get together and go on Tuesday for drinks, so made plans and came last Tuesday, I hate to say but it was the worst experience ever and it was my friend first time coming there, and she was so excited she got there before me... We sat at the bar and the guy up there did not do a good job at all, for one when I called her to let her know I was on my way she said that he wasn't very friendly and out going and she was right, I would ask him things and smile but he was very rude he offered no menu suggestions when asked he couldn't give any recommendations on any of the food, so when my girlfriend decided she wanted the Talapia then he goes on to say they no longer have that, so then I decided on the stuff chicken well low and behold we don't have that so at this point I'm trying really hard to stay focused so after try hard not to just walk out she said how about you just order for me so I did just that create your own pasta well can't go wrong with that, well apparently you can because when it came down to the sun dried tomatoes, oh we don't do the sun dried tomatoes anymore at that point I just realized I've had enough, but something interesting happen, she told him that when she got her earlier she overheard heard someone saying they were going to get some, at first I didn't believe her and thought it was a joke to lighten the mood but then she said I'm serious so at that point he went to go check and said apparently we do serve them. At that very moment I wanted to walk out, but I didn't want her to not want to ever come back, because I love this restaurant even if it was bad service on that day so I stayed, but was not happy at all 😠 I pray next time for...

This was a horrible experience. I was with a group of about 8. We sat ourselves in the bar area. We had Shannon as our server and unfortunately her customer service was awful. Three people in my party ordered mimosas. The bartender fixed the drinks and sat them on the bar, which was across from our table. Shannon walked past the drinks numerous times without bringing them to us. Finally, about 10 minutes after they’d been placed on the bar, a guest in my party asked if Shannon could serve us our drinks that had been waiting. She did so but without an apology for letting them sit out. When our food came, it was all cold and unseasoned. Everyone had cold potatoes, the biscuits were cold, even the steak that had been ordered was cold. I let Shannon know that we’d need our food remade because it was cold. She went into the kitchen (the door was right next to our table) and told the kitchen staff that we were “complaining about everything!” Once again, an apology was not issued. Our table was overflowing with plates so we asked Shannon to remove them. Every time she came to or near our table she rolled her eyes and sighed. Maybe she was having a bad day, but based on our service I can’t understand how she was even hired.

The restaurant was not particularly busy that day. We were the only people in the bar area. The staff was just really unprofessional. The hostess and servers kept going into the kitchen to joke around and play with the kitchen staff. When food was played, it just sat on the counter until everyone in that party’s orders had been finished, resulting in cold food. When it was time to get our checks, Shannon went down the line and asked everyone how many mimosas they had ordered because she wasn’t keeping track. Overall, an awful experience. I will definitely...

I was hesitant to give 5 stars because i want to be honest about my experience while also keeping it all a secret! I haven't been to Cafe Americain since I was a child on Jones Creek. I remember it well but never made it back until this past Tuesday (Mardi Gras). My mom hasn't been in about 19 years herself. We were soaked from the storm, freezing cold, and must have walked in RIGHT as they were opening and setting up. Soaked and freezing, i never got our servers name. She was incredible, personable, and so accommodating to a couple of floozies who were so hungry and excited, we probably looked like we escaped a psych ward after a hunger strike lol we were the only table for a while and we ordered SO much. Nowadays, a side could fit in your palm most places so we got a little bit of everything to just share and reach over the 2 top like neaderthals and enjoy ourselves with our little 2 person buffet. NO LIE THERE. In about 3 minutes it started coming out-HOT, fresh, crispy, melty, whatever it was supposed to be, it was and these "sides" were completely ridiculous. To the young lady who opened and served us on Fat Tues of 2025, please understand our awe and excitement. You were incredibly sweet (and didn't make me feel embarassed to ask for extra dressing and sauces, lol) and that caesar salad was so good I nearly flipped the table. Idk what yalls idea of rice dressing is but do not change it! That was rice lagniappe. To the guys or girls on the line scooping and preparing and plating? Bless you. Generous portions and just tasty as MMMMMM. When part of you hopes some of it will be mediocre so you don't crave take out- ugh. They hit you with perfection. I'll be seeing yall again soon. And by soon, probably twice a week...
