I feel bad leaving such a low rating, but the food was incredibly bad. The staff were super friendly and our waiter couldn’t have done a better job. The star is because the staff was wonderful. The food was among the worst I’ve had, ever, anywhere.
Everything was excellent except the food. I ordered the chicken biscuit and my wife ordered the Atchafalaya breakfast (poached eggs on crawfish cakes)
As the food arrived, I noticed the chicken was visibly overcooked. Still, the presentation/plating was excellent and frankly I was so hungry at the time I figured I could deal with overcooked chicken.
As I cut into the chicken, it crumbled to pieces. It was VERY overcooked. Tried again, and got a piece that didn’t splinter away on my fork, with a bit of the poached egg that was essentially hard boiled. Ugh. Terrible. Somehow it was all overcooked, and at the same time not even warm. It’s unfortunately the worst fried chicken I’ve ever eaten. The grits were also room temperature, so they were beginning to congeal. Edible, but not good at all. The hollandaise looked lovely, but it tases like someone spilled sugar in it. Sickly sweet. I scraped it off the bone-dry fried chicken jerky atrocity and tried to choke down another bite.
Overall, a strangely terrible breakfast. I left the burnt chicken on my plate and dreamt of a Popeye’s spicy chicken sandwich with pickle. It’s sad when you realize fast food would’ve been a better choice. Granted, Popeye’s has a great spicy chicken sandwich.
I glanced up from my dismal plate and my wife looked almost sad, lost in thought. I asked what was wrong and she said she couldn’t eat her breakfast. She described it as “soggy, doughy, and gross.” I tried it. Her description was nearly spot-on. Soggy, doughy, gross, but also with lingering taste of pungent vinegar. It was revolting. Her poached egg taunted me with its hard, cold, solid yolk.
Again, the waitstaff was attentive, accommodating and excellent.
The issue is 100% the kitchen. Absolutely awful food. I really wanted to like the place because everyone front of house was excellent. Perhaps someone was subbing in the kitchen? I can’t imagine anyone having an experience like ours and going back, ever. Yet the restaurant was full.
Remember the movie Less Than Zero? That’s the rating I would give this place based on the food. Again, waitstaff was attentive and excellent, but from less than zero, it only brings the rating to one star. The waitstaff is excellent. The kitchen is phenomenally,...
Read moreVisiting from out of town, we decided to try this place out on a Saturday evening.
We were seated within a few minutes in the back corner which was okay since we were a party of 5.
Our waiter, Alex was very inconvenienced to put it lightly by having to serve our table from the beginning when the napkins for the drinks started coming out like frisbees to each of us. It was a little busy so we understood the delay in getting our drinks and taking our order but would not let us finish ordering or answer questions on the menu to us. He would just role his eyes and walk away, even in the middle of the group ordering. He disappeared in the bathroom for 20 minutes but upon return didn't bother to refill any of the empty drinks. I left a generous tip considering the service but would not have if he wasn't awkwardly standing over me to process the payment. This was the only time he was attentive and not put off by having to do his job!
The seafood pie wasn't good at all, the center was barely warm, very bland, top was hot but it was as though they rushed it out of the kitchen too fast. Three of us braved to taste it and all agreed it was not good. If Alex would have been attentive, we likely could have remedied the issue but we decided to just push it aside and share our food with the one that couldn't eat the meal.
All of the other food was amazing from the crawfish queso to the stuffed shrimp. I would highly recommend drizzling a little pepper jelly dressing on brussel sprouts, it takes them to the next level.
For spending almost $200, I don't want to feel like I am burdening anyone to do their job. It was supposed to be a nice family night out, and not a feeling of awkwardness for the family being sat in...
Read moreWe arrived at 10:15am for Sunday brunch today. We had planned to go to another restaurant and it was closed for the morning. So after looking at Google we decided to try Elise's. We ordered coffee to start in with the coffee was only served sugar and creamer and the waitress had walked away before I realized that the only thing on our table was the sugar that came with the coffee. It took about 10 minutes for the waitress to come back around for me to ask for some Splenda and she wound up waiting on the table next to us and it took even longer to get some splenda. She failed to put stirrers in our coffee and we had to request that as well.
We started off with the fried dough appetizers and they were absolutely amazing so we were excited about our entrees. I ordered the chicken and biscuits and my friend ordered the Atchafalaya plate. It took a long time to be served our food and the waitress even came by and apologized and said it should be out soon she wound up getting the food out to the table next to us who had arrived after us before getting us our food. She continued to wait on the table next to us by bringing them boxes and taking care of their check before our food arrived at the table.
Needless to say our food was cold. The poached egg fried chicken and biscuit were cold as ice the Grits were the only warm thing on the plate.
It's a shame that it was cold because it was delicious. I will not be going back because whoever was running the kitchen should have been aware of how long are plates have been sitting there waiting to be taken to the table. They should have realized that it should have been cold and double-checked it before they sent it out...
