Garden District Coffee — Restaurant in Baton Rouge

One of my favorite coffee shops to do work or go to read. I've noticed one of the new employees is very passive aggressive and confirmed with other friends who enjoy the place that they experienced the same.

The only reason I'm writing this review is because I watched her be actively rude and passive aggressive to a couple who ordered coffee to-go an hour before closing. They tried to engage her in friendly conversation and she confirmed she was "frazzled" due to her having closed most of the shop an hour early since no new customers had come in for a while.

I've never had a bad interaction with any other employee which is why this stuck out to me as uncomfortable and...

To an out of towner, at first glance there seems to be little to this shop... well in the somewhat stark interior there are echoes of decades of pleased customers. GDC is not the first incarnation of this space, but few will remember anything here before (spoiler: yoga studio).

The space has changed names and owners a few times and the current management is the best it has seen.... old story .. employee buys out and runs the place better than predecessors.

Granita Latte is a hidden gem on the menu.. think frozen mocha latte. yummmm.

Oh and those folks in the front patio who look very comfortable may have been there 6 days a week...

The place is cute with the outdoor space and the service was great! It’s my neighborhood spot so I really wanted to like it, but the vanilla latte I ordered made me nearly spit it out. It was bitter. So I don’t know if something was bad like the flavoring or milk but I couldn’t drink it. I tried to sip on it on the way to work but I eventually tossed my nearly $6 drink. Which says a lot and it made me sad and frustrated cause I really needed caffeine that morning. I’m not against trying it out again but I’ll definitely try my drink before I get in my car next time just in case I have to tell them I can’t drink this and ask if...
