Fabulous restaurant. Being in a strip mall of sorts was a little deceptive, I’ve found those places are usually just run of the mill food. Not the case for Sakura. We were in Battle Creek just for a visit to the casino and decided on this place based on the reviews and glad we did. The Gyoza (pan fried dumplings) was so good. We had the Michigan Roll and a White Dragon, they both were larger than what we’ve found in Grand Rapids and the taste was fresh and clean, the temperature perfect, the rice fell apart into grains immediately and on the Michigan roll the Salmon just “melted” (for lack of a better term); on the White Dragon the crab tasted great and it’s apparent that it was not immigration crab. I’d recommend getting the actual fresh Wasabi (can’t recall the name but it’s not the Wasabi paste) if you like the of Wasabi, worth every cent of the $3 it cost. The Maki rolls were also very tasty but not much different than what we’ve found at other sushi restaurants.
Our server was Devon, he was super attentive (but not annoying) had a great sense of humor and kept our drinks full. It’s clear he either loves what he does or is just really good at at least faking it.
Oh, and the prices were also very reasonable, I’d even dare to say lower than expected based on the quality of food received.

Read moreThe food was great, the service was terrible. We split three sushi rolls between the two of us. I also had a garden salad and miso soup. The salad was drenched in dressing though. Soup was hot and good. The sushi rolls could have used some more sauce. I gave three stars because the service was very poor. Our server did not wait for us to sit down before starting to talk to us about drinks. She did not offer us water with our alcohol purchases. We got our food fast. During our meal the server did not come back, not even one time, to see if we needed anything! As I have served for years at various restaurants and in different settings I found this extremely inappropriate. I needed water and had to ask the manager for it. I could see our server standing in the back hallway socializing as we ate. She finally came back after we were well past finished. Her attitude was short and not friendly. Our bill was $51.94. We left a $60 and walked out. She stood to earn a good 30% from us, but we believe you earn money as a server by putting in effort! Lastly there was a server vacuuming RIGHT next to our table during our dinner. How rude to run a vacuum cleaner while someone eats dinner! Good food but don't expect...
Read moreI have a wonderful time every time we go to Sakura. The food is amazing, and everyone is very welcoming. Short story, on September 26th, i got married and we decided to have our reception on the other restaurant across the street to experience the hibachi for ourselves and 4 other guests. We had a reservation there but they decided not to seat us because one of our guests was arriving late. Me and my husband was wearing our wedding gown and suit, waiting in the short couch. We were treated rudely there, and they wouldn't allow my mother inlaw who was disabled to sit even on one of the chairs. Anyway, we left there and went to Sakura instead. We had no reservations, and yet we were seated immediately and were treated like kings and queens. We were there for almost 3 hours, having fun with our small group and i believe everyone had a great time. The ambiance was nice, and the sushi rolls are amazing! There was a selection of sake, and some other beers too. We had the lovers boat, which was amazingly beautiful and the sashimi were fresh. Great food, great treatment by the staff and wonderful ambiance. We had an amazing wedding reception...
