La Cocina Mexicana — Restaurant in Battle Creek

I can’t say I’ve ever had a bad experience at a Mexican restaurant in my entire 34 years of Mexican restauranting 😂

I was a first timer to this location and unfortunately, when being greeted by an extremely snooty hostess I had a feeling that this might be the one. I asked her for a booster seat, she passed the chore off on the busy servers. Not only did she take me a dirty table, but I wasn’t greeted for 10 minutes and wasn’t brought a booster seat for over 15. But OK, I’m going to order anyway, right? Yep ordered my usual chicken chorizo and a quesadilla kids meal for my kid. The kids quesadilla came cold and smothered in hot peppers and onions. Not to mention the chicken was the color of pork and tasted disgraceful. The chicken chorizo, however, is a pretty standard plate at any Mexican joint. They always look the exact same in my experience, bite-size, chicken and rice smothered and chorizo and cheese sauce.This was more like two tenderloins topped with questionable chorizo. With more rice on the side, then protein. Needless to say after I took one bite of my entree, I paid for my drinks and left.

The servers seemed sweet - over worked and underpaid. I’m assuming by the snooty hostess who can’t be bothered helping out but who knows. Such a shame.

There are plenty of better Mexican restaurants in the battlecreek area. I’m sure they/you can pick one and would be...

We have visited this restaurant on two separate occasions. They have plenty of free parking as they are located in a shopping center. We travel with our business and sometimes we have a long trailer to pull behind a truck; so it's always nice to find restaurants with plenty of parking. We have ordered the burritos, enchiladas, refried beans, rice, chips and salsa queso, chicken quesadilla and taco salad. The Mexican Flag is a fun dish.. you will have to check out the menu and order it; lots of food to eat so bring a hungry friend... Everything that we tried was fresh hot and tasty. Prices are fair, service was prompt and the wait for our order was short. The dining room is well decorated with bright lightly colored furniture and decor. The rest rooms were clean and easy to access. They had plenty of customers so you know the locals come there to eat and that works. We went to eat today and waited almost 20min to even have someone bring us chips and take our drink order. We gave the waiter the benefit of the doubt because he was on break and came back to 3 tables. Our waiter went to the other two tables first, then us. I will say that the lady behind me was extremely rude, demanding what they wanted to drink and what they wanted to eat, she knew the waiter by name as it seems they were regular customers. With that being said, we had to ask for salsa, ask for our drinks ask for silverware. The food came out fast and was decent. My husband asked what type of shrimp was on the special and the young lady up front just said it regular shrimp probably. We ended up looking it up and it happened to be named after a state in Mexico so we let her know in case anyone else asked and she gave me a dirty look and rolled her eyes!
