So in honor of my girlfriend's birthday, I brought her here this year. It was a surprise, but I think she had an inkling, because of Tables in Wonderland account had expired and I never renewed it. Tip: This place does not accept Tables in Wonderland. We get there a little bit before our reservations, we climb the beautiful staircase, and we get seated promptly.
Our server is actually from France, which is really kool. He's a super nice guy who has mastered the art of checking in on us often, but not too often. We chose one of the prix fixe menus. I can't find it on the internet, but I'll explain the courses.
So for our first course, I had Oxtail broth with braised beef, vegetables and black winter truffles covered in puff pastry and my girlfriend had the Escargot with Garlic Butter (served in a gougère, parsley cream, mushrooms, pickled vegetables).
Super happy with both dishes. The broth was so deep and rich. The truffles were as delectable as they look on the Food Network. The puff pastry was fun and a good thing to mix in and eat like a French dip. The escargot was delicious, too. Unlike anything served at any of the Epcot festivals. Tender and popping with flavor. I would say the escargot was the better dish.
For the entrees, she had the Black Sea Bass (in potato 'scales', fresh spinach, rosemary sauce). I had the Roasted Berkshire Pork Chop (with fricassee and puree of savoy cabbage, roasted potatoes, pork jus).
Her sea bass was cooked perfectly and was super flakey. The scales were laid out and executed just like they should be in a fine dining joint like this one. The sauce was my favorite part of the dish, though. The creaminess with the rosemary-forwardness of it all. Wow. I wish I could have bought a bottle of the stuff.
My pork chop, however, was superior. The cook was the most perfect I've ever seen. It was juuust pink. Like pork should be nowadays. The sides were fine. I wish there were more potatoes, but I am greedy. I loved how the flavor of the meat intensified as you got closer to the bone. The server offered to cut it for me. I think that's standard. I said no thank you, though. Strange.
Now for dessert. We got the Warm Chocolate Almond Cake (with raspberry coulis in the center, hazelnut crust, hazelnut ice cream) and the Milk Chocolate Sphere (Chocolate almond cake, praline and chocolate cream, light hazelnut biscuit with chocolate ice cream, warm chocolate, and Cognac sauce. Dessert prepared with alcohol products).
The cake was wow. It is obviously Nutella-esque, but it was subtle. It tasted naturally flavored as opposed to artificially. It's hard to explain. Just get it. It was the better dessert.
The sphere. It was kool. I took a Snapchat video. But, it was nothing special. If you order this, you're ordering an experience, and that it was. I felt like I was on Chef's Table or something.
Overall, this place was great. It was five stars in price, but I wish I could give it six stars in food. Wowey wow wow. I will come here again in about a year, as they said that their current menu will soon change drastically, now the man who inspired the name has passed away. I'm anxious to see what new things they...
Read moreThis was probably one of the best meals I've ever had at Disney. Copy/pasting information from the Disney website menu for the restaurant, I went with the 'Prix Fixe Menu Prestige' option that came with three courses and dessert for $89. The choices I made (with my review of each) were:
First Course - Fresh and Smoked Salmon Rilette with sorrel and lemon cream The consistency of this honestly reminded me of tuna fish out of a can but it was way better tasting than that. The salmon was fresh, a little smokey and had a beautiful, rich flavor. The lemon cream sauce added a wonderful flavor to the salmon.
Second Course - Choice of Appetizer Oxtail broth with braised beef, vegetables and black winter truffles covered in puff pastry This soup reminded me of beef vegetable but again, tasted way better than soup out of a can or even what my grandmother would make. The puff pastry on top was very fluffy, tasted as if it were fresh out of the oven and went perfectly with the soup. The soup itself wasn't too salty and the beef had a beautiful flavor to it. The truffles (first time I've tried them) were great.
Third Course - Choice of Main Course Butter-roasted turbot with lentil-bacon fricassee, and carrot variation I love seafood and fish. I've never tasted fish like this before and I have to say it's some of the best fish I've ever tasted. There was absolutely no fishy taste to it at all. The flavor was amazing and with the fricassee and carrots added the flavors were wonderful. The carrots were a little sweet while the fricassee was salty/savory so it was a really balanced flavor.
Dessert - Meringue mango and coconut sorbets, vanilla Chantilly, exotic fruit coulis Dessert is my favorite part of a meal and this did not disappoint. The mango and coconut sorbets were excellent, full and rich flavor, the meringue was perfect. The chantilly cream and fruit coulis added excellent flavors, there was some Swiss meringue in the sorbet was perfect consistency and added to the taste.
Outside of the meal, our waiter Mathieu was wonderful. He had a very strong French accent (being French) but didn't get frustrated if we had some trouble understanding him and had to clarify what he said. Neither my wife nor I are experts when it comes to French cuisine so he was able to assist us to understand what a meal or course consisted of. We also aren't experts in wine. We described what we like and Mathieu was very patient in making some recommendations. He didn't just jump to the most expensive wine on the list or get frustrated trying to describe what something tasted like. He took the time to listen and you could tell he was very dedicated to making sure we had the best experience possible. He brought us out a sample of two wines and let us pick what we wanted and it was a perfect choice thanks to his assistance.
I would definitely recommend Monsieur Paul's for a fancy dining experience. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful and the food is out...
Read moreWe were very impressed with our first visit to Monsieur Paul! It was closed due to COVID for a long time but recently reopened. We were not expecting such a great meal within the parks but we were wrong. This experience is right up there with Victoria & Alberts & Morimoto Asia’s Omakase. You may be surprised by this, but I’ll tell you why: *Price point- cheaper than both the above options! Comes to $200 per person & they have a couple different options for wine pairings that weren’t super expensive. The wine list has many reasonable pours as well. *The menu! It may not seem like as many courses as the others but trust mit is! They pace it out beautiful and it’s plenty of food! *The service & skill. Each plate was prepared with a daft hand, the servers (most from France), provide authenticity & knowledge of French cuisine. Our server was wonderful. Amuse bouche was a delicious tuna tartare (my favorite!) great bite to start the meal.First course we enjoyed the escargot & the lobster. The lobster salad with the passion fruit vinaigrette was excellent & a good portion of Fresh lobster. I wasn’t a fan of the mayonnaise type of carrot/pea veg with it but it didn’t ruin the dish. The escargot was different than traditional almost looking like a soup. However, this was excellent! We both weren’t expecting to enjoy it as much as we did. Next we had the sea bass in puff pastry monsieur Paul style & the scallops. We love scallops and they were cooked perfectly. The dish was colorful & presented nicely. The house speciality sea bass was everything you want it to be. Great presentation & perfectly cooked puff pastry. Sauce Choron great as well. Do not skip this dish! Lovely palate cleanser of sorbet and then the meat course. We opted for the lamb & filet. Both cooked perfectly & portions just right. I was preferential to the lamb my husband loved the filet. Both had robust sauces. Cheese plate my favorite course of the meal. Each cheese served the perfect temperature & had exceptional flavors. I loved the blue cheese, wrote it down, and purchased it from a store in Boston. The little jar they serve is a great touch also. For dessert I had the signature chocolate & my husband had the apple. Both of these were excellent. The chocolate was so rich & a fun presentation. No negative points for dessert we only wish we had more room. The cons about Monsieur Paul is that it’s located in the park so it is a little bit of a pain to get to. It also makes it difficult to bring leftovers home. They also only take reservations between 6-7pm. I understand this as it’s a 3 hour dining experience but it would be nice if there was some variety in timing so you can also squeeze in park time. All & all the beverages as well as the food were top tier and we would absolutely return. Exceeded...
