Wow. It’s hard to give such a legendary establishment a 4-star review and I certainly hope the owners are’t operating on this new anything-less-than-5-stars-is-failure world order. Because this really WAS a great experience and it really WAS a great donut. It just wasn’t the best in Pittsburgh and that’s what this review is about. My daughters and I have been on a mission to find the best donut in town. We go out of our way to research, travel to, and indulge in all the contenders, and our travels have taken us to some great bakeries. We read on Reddit that this is the best donut in Pittsburgh and knew we had to try it. So on a Saturday morning, we set out. We were surprised by the early close time and definitely commend anyone following in our footsteps to note the hours. It was longer drive from our house than we expected. Who knew Beaver Falls was a whole different town than Beaver? But the spring buds were on the trees lining 7th Avenue and we were treated to a nice little show as we drove into town. Unfortunately, the charm thinned out as we entered the shop. It’s not that it’s dumpy … it’s just that it’s not as cute as some of the other bakeries we have visited on this tour. Everybody was very nice. We got a dozen donuts. Doeblini said she thought the selection was a little thin. She said they all looked like variations on the same thing. When we got the goods home and bit into them, the overwhelming consensus was that there was too MUCH filling. Hard to believe that’s possible, but it seemed overdone. Personally, I thought the cake part of the donut tasted stale. Minidoebs says I’m just imagining that, but I ate a couple and they all tasted just a bit old. It’s not that the donuts are BAD. It’s just that they’re not as good as some of the other donuts we’ve had on this tour. If this were a stand-alone review, I suspect we would give this place 5-stars. But relative to other options, it is not first place in our book, which means something less than 5-stars.

This sort of Donut Shop is so rare these days and as a result is special in every way. Lets talk about the variety they have here, its vast and it changes weekly which means each week you go in there is something different to have. In regards to the quality of the items they have on offer, they are all good. You can see the other reviews and its rating and know your going to get something incredible. You can order online to have your boxes ready for you when you arrive at a set time. This is great because the popular stuff sells quick and ordering online allows you to be sure you get what you want. Pickup times start at 5am and go until 11:15am giving you a very wide range of times. Finally lets talk about the price, the days of getting high quality food for a good price are all but gone but this place still has the quality and the great price. Honestly for the $40 I spent I walked away with 3 boxes full, 3 heavy boxes because they don't skimp on the size or filling. Overall if your in the area this is a must stop but even if your like me and had to travel 1.5 hours to get here its worth the drive.

The donuts here are simply amazing. However, the recent publicly is a blessing and a curse. Got there at 8:15 am. Waited outside for 20 minutes. Once inside, most of the "favorites" were gone. No cinnamon rolls, no raised glazed donuts. Settling for another option was easy. However, If you want something specific, it's best to order them, AT NOON, the day before. NO, REALLY! If they receive too many orders, the online order system shuts down and will not take orders. Everyone was friendly and efficient. The covid-19 protocols made communications across the counter "challenging". With masks and plastic shields in place, everyone sounds like Charlie Brown's teacher. The experience was good and I will return! Remember, if you want something specific, order it online the day before, AT NOON!

Don’t mistake the 1 star review for this place having bad food. No, the donuts are as good as everyone says they are. Best I’ve ever had. And that’s the ONLY reason I keep going back.

The one star review is because it’s stopped being “quaint” a long time ago that they’re out of food 3 hours before they close and it was never enjoyable to be treated rudely by the staff for saying as much.

Oh, I know, someone is going to say I’m a Karen for complaining that the place that sells food doesn’t have food to sell, but that keyboard warrior didn’t just drive a half hour to end up eating a muffin from Sheetz.

If you’re going to be open to sell food to the public, you should have food to sell. And if you’re going to lean into the old fashioned donut shop thing, then don’t retort that you can place an order online in order to do it.

I’m sure one google review isn’t going to change anything because it’s evident they don’t care and that they don’t feel the need to change. But it needed to be said. Having good food only goes so far, and soon enough others are going to figure out they don’t have break promises to customers and be rude in the process to deliver good food.

UPDATE: Lo and behold I found donuts that were pretty much just as good as these one, at a lower price, closer to where I live, always in stock, and served by people who seem to actually appreciate my business. I haven’t thought about...
