I've never written a bad review in my life, but I feel as though I can not let this one slide. I ordered a cake for my sister's bridal shower. I sent them a reference photo, asking for a simple white cake, with a gold drip. Or what I thought was simple. I had multiple emails not responded to when it came time to pay my balance, when I wanted to apply a gift card that I had. I had to go into the store in order just to get the cake paid for. Fine, not ideal, but not a big deal. My husband goes to pick up the cake around noon, when they close at 2, and the cake has not been decorated yet. They tell him it would be ready in 10-12 minutes. He comes back 20 minutes later, and still not done. He finally gets the cake around 1 o'clock. God bless my husband, but if I would have been there to see that cake, I would not have brought it home and would have immediately asked for a refund. The first photo I have posted was the reference photo that I gave them. The next four photos are photos of the cake that I paid $75 for. I emailed them, and they responded that if I brought the cake back, they would redo it. We took this option, and let me say, I'm still embarrassed of the end result, and definitely did not feel that my $75 was well spent. I also wasn't offered any type of refund for all of the trouble that I had to go through to get this mediocre result of a cake. The last photos I've attached were the end result. You could also see spots of the red velvet cake where the batter had not been fully mixed. I'm very sad to say that we will not ever be using this bakery again, which is sad because they did a beautiful job with our wedding cake. I'm not sure what has happened in the past year, but it is not something that we wish to experience again.

Don’t lose your time, your money and your nerves in this place like I did. They screwed my wedding cake that supposed to be for 30 people, payed 375$ for it. And the cake that I got looks just like a cake for kids party. No more than 10. Very small and inaccurate. Not to say that a lot of detail from the cake that I ordered was missing. Like the top sign with Mr and Mrs.and one more layer. And the white butterflies that supposed to be ornaments on it. I just got embarrassed in front of all my guests because of them. I guess they decided that I don’t need it.They delivered the cake earlier at the restaurant where my wedding toke place and did not announced me. Just let me there with a half made job. And by the end the excuse for the topper was that I didn’t pay for the delivery with he told me i can pay on the day he supposed to deliver. Never called me after that. The chef of the restaurant did not now how to calm me down after seeing my face and the reaction when i so my cake that i paid so much for it. I did not serve it to my guests. Just wanted to return it right away. I was trying to get a hold of them. I called the bakery and nobody answered. I emailed them and Shaun email me back that they are sorry. (Didn’t made me feel any better) the job was screwed. Why are you taking wedding orders if you can’t make them. He returned back 100$ for it. But still the money are lost my wedding day is passed away. So I don’t have what to so with it. I really wanted to return the cake but he responded that they are closed all this week and will be back just next Tuesday. And I just going to check email sometime and answer me. Shame on you all!!! Ruining people’s big events.

My son is a huge Spider-Man fan, so I was so excited when I saw CH&L post an awesome Spider-Man cake (the second picture). I was unable to pick up the cake on the date I requested, Bc it fell on a Monday and the store is closed. I went back and forth on whether or not to still order it and pick it up 2 days early but finally decide to place the order Bc I knew my son would be so excited ans I checked other bakeries and nothing compared to the cake that I saw CH&L post…it just looked so cool. I had other things to do on the day of pick up, so I asked my husband to pick up the cake. Had I been the one to pick it up, I never would have left with it. It looks nothing like the image they posted. It looks like a child made it, and the colors are so dark and dreary. We live 40 mins away, but I would have made the drive back to return it, but they gave us a pick up time (1:00) only an hour prior to closing, so we wouldn’t have made it. I had my husband call to complain and was only offered a refund for 1/2 of the price. This cake is completely embarrassing and I don’t even want to give it to my son. I don’t know how anyone in their right mind could even let a customer walk away with a product that looked that horrible. I will never use this bakery again, not only for the horrible cake presentation, but for the lack of customer service. It’s a shame.

The cupcakes are the only reason I gave this business more than 1 star.

My daughter's birthday party is on the 27th. Knowing how popular Cake, Hope, Love is, I decided to go as soon as the holidays were over on Jan 2. I used fb messenger to confirm store hours and went in to place an order for my daughter's birthday cake.

Nothing fancy, just a 6in cake with white frosting, maybe some pink. The lady who helped me mentioned she was the one who was in charge of fb messenger and had spoken with me earlier. She checked her calendar and said they were not booked and started writing my order on a blank page and mentioned that the cake was needed on a Monday, but she could have it ready by Saturday for pickup because they are closed on Mondays. She assured me they put enough buttercream in their cakes that they stay moist for a couple days. Not ideal, but the cupcakes are good so I said that was fine.

I also wanted to place an order of cookies. I showed her an example of what I wanted. Just a dozen cookies, half in the shape of a 1 and the other half whatever she thought would be best, a heart a star, monogrammed, whatever.. I also asked what other treats and desserts her bakery had to offer because I would like to order more for the party. She suggested chocolate covered strawberries and a few other items. All sounded wonderful. She took my name, number and email and said she would send me a list of items and prices so I could choose. I happily bought some cupcakes and left.

By the next week she hadn't sent me anything so I sent her a message on FB. I know people are busy and with the beginning of the year was sure it had just slipped her mind. Sure enough she said she had forgotten and would send me the list. 3 days later I checked in again but have not heard from her since. It has been 2 weeks since I visited the bakery and a week since I last messaged her. She has even refused to "check" my message on FB messenger, as you can see when your messages have been read. So obviously she just has it in her inbox unopened. Whether she knows it's me or not at this point is irrelevant. To not check your business messages is poor professionalism, bad business management and inadequate customer service.

During all this time, she has updated her fb page multiple times a day. Now she has posted that all of January is booked, so I'm pretty sure she just filled in my slot, because I haven't been able to order anything and therefore haven't paid anything and we all know how stickler she is about paying at the time of booking.

I've attached pictures below of our fb messenges and a picture of the lady who "assisted" me.

They make good stuff, but based on recent reviews it seems that what happened to me is not entirely unusual and she likes to "Ghost" clients she doesn't want for whatever reason. It's up to you as customers whether you would still like to take the gamble on your special occasion but, I will not be returning.

Dorothy Lane Market also makes delicious cakes so that's where I'll be ordering from now on. I will miss the cupcakes but I definitely won't miss...

Do not waste your time with this bakery!!! Seven mess ups! Seven!!!

Went for wedding consult. Sent an email mentioning a SECRET grooms cake. Stated in the email that it was a surprise. Lady popped her head out while my mom, husband and I were there talking all about how she was a huge fan of the idea for his cake. Surprise ruined!

Ordered my gender reveal cake a month or two in advanced. When I went to drop off the ultrasound results I had already paid in full. I went in and they had absolutely no clue about my order. No apologies or taking the blame. They still made the cake and cupcakes but honestly the cake looked rushed.

I sent a message through Facebook asking if they could do a lion king themed cake. This was about 4 months in advanced. She said she could and loved the idea. When I asked for a price and gave the date of the baby shower I never got a reply back. Nothing at all.

I had a c section and was not allowed to drive and I called and placed an order over the phone for girl scout cookie cupcakes. The owner said they were super busy, which I completely understand. But she told me she had enough for my order and was going to set them to the side. My friend was going to pick them up for me. 10 minutes later a gentleman from the bakery calls to tell me it would be another 20 minutes because they were missing some of the cupcakes I ordered. I was fine with that and informed my friend. When she got there the owner told her that I was told I would have to get my cupcakes the next day as they did not have them. I had gave them my payment info and everything! I was told they were reserved!. I called back and the owner said she would deliver my order the following day.

They never delivered my cupcakes I ordered as promised. The next day the owner explained that there was some issue with the person who handled the deliveries. She gave me a credit for a free 1/2 dozen.

I ordered my Harry Potter week cupcakes and pumpkin pasties. 8 cupcakes in total and 2 pumpkin pasties. 6 of the cupcakes were free from the credit I was given. Pick up was 8-29. My aunt passed away the night prior and it slipped my mind. But I went to their FB page and saw a video where we were supposed to receive a message and email when our order wa ready for pick up since their parking is limited. I never received anything. The owner told me she would make my order the following week.

The following Saturday I go to pick up my order. The lady I spoke with said they had just finished making them when I called for pickup. That could not be true as they were all dry and sandy feeling!! I am certain they just held my cupcakes for a week as they tasted old. Also they could not make the pumpkin pasties because they didn't have the pastry dough so they would give me a partial credit.

That is the last time I give this place a chance. I was so excited for these desserts. I am on a diet and this was my splurge. They aren't even edible!!!! Do not waste your time with...

I placed an order in May for a "baby shark" theme smash cake and 2 dozen cupcakes to match in funfetti for pick-up on Saturday, July 6th. A couple of weeks before the event, I emailed to confirm the pick-up date and time - 1st email: no response, 2nd email: no response, 3rd email: no response, 4th email: no response. I called the week of and confirmed the order and pick-up time for exactly 11am, emphasizing that the party was soon after that so I needed it to be ready, the order was read back off to me and they confirmed that it would be ready. I showed up at exactly 11am and the gate was locked. Phone was answered the second time I called; they didn't have their key and had to go find a key from another business close by. I make it inside, Rachel grabs the cake and sits it on the counter in front of me. Immediately I notice a large bug crawling on one of the toppers. She yanks the topper off (messing up the frosting on the top of the cake), flicks the bug off and then asks what I want her to do with it. The person that makes the topper isn't there, so there's nothing they can do about it. His name was also crooked on the cake and the shark was missing the black pupil in one eye. Then they tell me the cupcakes aren't ready - they have to finish them up. By this time it's like 11:15 and I need to get to my child's party to set-up everything. They bring out the cupcakes and they are definitely not what I ordered. 10 cupcakes are chocolate, 14 are vanilla (who orders cupcakes like that? so hap-hazard). There are small dollops of white frosting on top and a pinch of sprinkles - consistency was way off, on some the cake stopped half way up the wrapper on others it leveled at the top. All while Rachel is telling me that she doesn't know what happened because she didn't work on my order and that she would let the owners know and they would reach out to me. I didn't have time to deal with straightening out all the issues with my order as I had my son's 1st birthday party to attend. I sent a quick message to the owners on Facebook stating that Rachel told me she would let them know the numerous issues with my order and gave them a contact number to reach out to me. I sent that on Saturday as I pulled out of their parking lot. The business has since added multiple posts to social media accounts, but have not reached out to me. I do not recommend this business. If you want to take your chances on popping in and picking up a cupcake or other dessert from their counter that is already made, go ahead - but that was the same counter my cake was sitting on that had a bug crawling on the topper. I would never place an order for an event like a wedding or important birthday, they just don't have...
