This place used to be called Sauvie Island Coffee a couple months back. At that time, they had a really nice roast, and the service was great. The atmosphere was also pretty welcoming. With the new ownership change, the vibe seems to be less personal, colder, and the coffee doesn't taste as good as it used to either. Overall, it went from a stand-out coffee joint that I was proud to show my friends, to a spot I now only dare to step into if I absolutely have no other choice. In fact, I went to 7/11 for coffee yesterday because I couldn’t stand paying for coffee at Tall Fir. Between the bad vibe and poor tasting coffee, it just isn't worth it anymore. The service is okay (depending on who you get), but those good employees are only the ones they had before management/coffee changed. The newer people are pretty weird around customers and don’t seem to really care to make a good impression on people. Another notable thing is their hours. Most coffee shops open at 5AM. Opening at 6AM when you are this close to the Freeway/Nike/Intel doesn’t make sense to me. The 5-6AM crowd is loyal, and will show up in the afternoon on their way home from work, and weekends too. Once you lose them on weekday mornings, they're gone for good. Honestly, if I had to guess, I'd guess this company is being run by a middle aged man who thought it would be "cool" to own a coffee shop but actually has no clue how to actually build a loyal following or customer base because he has never built a business in his life. Probably just another project that rich mommy/daddy are paying for to get their adult child out of the house. I feel bad for the employees, and I miss Sauvie Island Coffee! Come...
Read moreThis coffee shop that I love was recently purchased — again. I just noticed two images printed on the back of the bags of coffee beans now being sold in the shop: A “Thin Blue Line” image and a Christian fish symbol.
Aka: the symbols of cops and Christian nationalists. Despite the prominent fish, there was nothing on the owner’s website about being a Christian, but a LOT about being a retired cop.
Guess I won’t be visiting that...
