Back in Aloha, Oregon, at that same food truck pod at which we found @La's, stands Welcome India Food. It'd been a long day of walking, and I was too hungry to cook for myself. I love Indian / Pakistani food, and will partake anywhere in the world that I find it, so this was a happy moment.
First I want to mention the team manning Welcome India Food; they were terribly happy to be sharing their creations, mindfully and carefully preparing step by step. By the time they handed it over I was very excited to stretch out my hands.
The first time at most Indian / Pakistani places I always order the same thing, for the same reason I listen to vocals to judge a music system, to judge the cookery. Basmati rice, chicken tikka marsala, garlic naan.
What immediately jumps out is that it's prepared and served at the proper temperature: HOT! I whip the container over to the picnic table shielded by an olive drab tarp, peeling open the lids and the foil, and am greeted by wafts of steam and a delightful smell from the rice, the marsala, and the naan. I struggle with mouths of hot food; so delicious and so demanding of consumption.
The taste is more tomato, nutty, and sweet than I expected; a little bit korma. Deeply satisfying, and the perfect ending to a...
Read moreI have a lifestyle goal. Every month I cook something or eat something I've never cooked or eaten before. When I first tried the amazing garlic Nan bread I knew I would have to come back and see what this food cart in Aloha was about. So I ordered Chicken Vindaloo (chicken and potatoes) and Chicken Tikka Masala and two orders of Nan Garlic Bread. I waited about ten minutes and was greeted with a warm smile and the chef there handed me a salad of onions, parsley, yogurt, light fluffy croutons, a hint of mint and vinegar I believe the name of this treat is paneer but what an amazing combo of fresh, sense opening flavors and smells. The Chicken Vindaloo was smooth and creamy with a perfectly cooked tender chicken. The Vindaloo and Tikka Masala were served on a fluffy bed of rice. I could not believe this quality of food was coming out of a single truck with one person doing the work. So my suggestion try something new or you may miss a amazing new experience. I can't wait to go back and see what other amazing tastes this guy...
Read moreOrdered saag paneer and explicitly asked if it had tomatoes. The person at the window said no. I explained I have a tomato allergy, and to please make sure there was no tomato. He affirmed there was no tomato. When I opened the lid to the food container, the sang paneer smelled like tomato sauce. I returned with the food and said that the food had tomatoes and that I wanted a refund. He said there was no tomato in it. I repeated myself and he said that he thought I told him not to add potatoes to it. Weird flex, but ok. He said he'd make me another one, but I wasn't willing to risk an allergic reaction. My partner had the butter chicken and said the sauce was ok, but that the chicken was subpar quality. Won't be going back. One star for not being able to eat (woohoo winter storm power outage), and one star for them actually refunding my...
