Cheddar's Scratch Kitchen — Restaurant in Beckley

Hello Google restaurant fans!,

I want to try to be very fair when we discovered this restaurant we were both pretty hungry and although we wanted to try some other places the way the traffic pattern is to get into this place it's thorn of forced us into a final and we decided to go for it.

We were seated and inside it was cool fairly dark in its decorations but since it was hot and sunny outside that is a good thing. It looks like it was a converted Mexican restaurant because the decorations feature a lot of stone work and arches but that is hardly anything to really judge a restaurant by.

We ordered our food, I got a month I Cristo sandwich and my friend picked up some fried chicken and ribs combination platter. She also ordered a croissant which the waitress was going to try to explain to us what a croissant is but my friend cutter off since she already knows. We did not order any specialties or changes in the menu we pretty much ordered straight off the menu.

From the beginning we also ordered and appetizer of the spinach and cheese dip and when that came out I noticed it was probably 80% spinach and maybe 20% cheese. When I have had dip in other places it is usually a higher percentage of cheese so this came to me as a biz of at disappointment and I found the taste was basically moist spinach on a chip with just a hint of a cheese taste behind it. Not my favorite but if that is what people are into them go for it.

The food then came out very quickly after the appetizer, so we really didn't not have a chance to finish our dip and chips before we started to work on our lunch. For my friend the potatoes already so cold the butter would not melt on them and the ribs were cold but the chicken was too hot to try to even eat. My Monta Cristo sandwich was very very very greasy and I don't know if it's supposed to taste that way or not but I did not find it enjoyable it all.

Many reviews have said how the food is not very good and I agree with that and they say the staff was nice. I'm not sure whether or not that is the case, I did not find them unpleasant but they did mess up the order from the beginning when they forgot to bring the croissant that my friend ordered. I have never been to France but I think I have a pretty good idea of what a croissant is a what they brought out with something more like a crescent roll which was also fairly cold and the butter didn't really melt on it.

In the end this seems to be a chain restaurant and don't be expected to be amazed by the food variety. More so I don't know if the cook was off that day and they got a replacement at the last minute but the food did not seem to be properly warmed or cooled and I am from the north so I don't particularly like super greasy foods but the sandwich was almost too greasy for me to...

(Update) cheddars reached out and refunded me with a gift card, wasn’t the full amount but it was well over the amount expected, I want to say the food is always amazing and in my situation I’m assuming there was just a mishap in the hiring process and someone acted like they wanted the job they actually didn’t want. I want to say I really appreciated the fact that they investigated the situation and found that I was in the right without me even reaching out because I’m horrible with checking my emails because I work up to 20 hours a day every day and mostly forget to check. I have been back since this incident and my experience was 10/10, everything was back to normal, 100 percent recommend this place. Thank you !!!

I have eaten at Cheddars Scratch Kitchen many many times and have always had decent experience, but today that was a different story. I understand that with having to hire new servers constantly it’s hard to get and keep the ones that are good at their job. That being said today I had the worst experience from my server, he was having issues understanding what we were ordering and acted like he didn’t know anything about the menu, the food was taking a while it being after church and crowded which we completely understand, we were not in a rush, our server checked on us probably three times before our food came out, which was appreciated. He asked if my nephews needed a refill and the cup was three quarters full, so they said no. Then later (20 minutes) when the food had came, my nephews needed a refill and when we asked his response was ( oh so now you want a refill ) which I found very rude, then after he brought those drinks we noticed some of the food was missing simple things like ranch and mayo and needed those items and he didn’t come back for 10 minutes or so, no exaggeration. Then after receiving those items we didn’t see him again until I had waved down another server asking them for some go boxes and my receipt. The worst experience of my life today the majority of our food was cold by the time we got what we needed. My niece sit for 10 minutes waiting for her mayo, until she gave up and ate the burger without it, so she didn’t even get her food the way she wanted it. It was a very unpleasant experience this afternoon and the server needs to be retrained on the menu and manners. After being treated with disrespect we felt rushed and in the way because of the rudeness and being ignored. I was going to skip out without giving a tip but I’m not that person. We are locals and really enjoy cheddars in Beckley. Cheddars have very friendly hard working wait staff. Jasmine tiffany and kevin are a few that we ask for by name. What many do not understand is like other restaurants the waiters, and waitresses not only take care of their customers, they also have duties to preform in the back of the house as well. As well as helping deliver plates to other customers. Cheddars at this location is very clean the food is great and the prices are better then other restaurants in the area. The food is made fresh it takes a little time to prepare it that way, but its worth the wait. Be mindful many do not seem to appreciate all the work and care put into their service, waiters and waitresses need gratuity to survive. 10/11/19 Cheddars has added some new items to their menu, as always they have the best menu in the area! I had jasmine as my waitress this afternoon, she is always very sweet and helpful, even though she was extremely busy. I also saw that tiffany is still there too! They are both excellent waitresses The food was still very good! 11/19/2019 Cheddar’s is still one of the best places to eat in beckley wv. They make everything from scratch! The menu is very good, prices are reasonable. The servers bring you a couple free delicious croissants, upon greeting you! The managers are very nice, kind and helpful. Also Jasmine works usually monday Tuesday Friday and Saturday afternoons, she is almost always our waitress! tiffany, and Laura, are still there. They all have been there over a year and a half!
