Side note: I'm assuming the 5 star reviews are either employees, folks who don't have access to a local LJS, or are paid. My 2¢.
As far as fast food fish goes, LJS is my go-to. There aren't many left, and it's a treat for me on the occasions I find myself near one AND the craving overcomes my sense of rationality to avoid greasy, fried food. Yesterday was one of those rare occasions.
This particular location is old & it shows. So am I, but at least I bathe (I'm clean). Can't say the same for this particular store. It wasn't filthy, mind you, just not spotless like one expects from a chain food service. For example, had a hard time finding a booth that had been wiped down; crumbs & greasy smears on the table tops and on the seats. Mind you, this was a little after 2 p.m., so lunch rush was well over. The cocktail sauce pump was broken with a large splat of said sauce on the counter at the condiment/napkin station. The floor in the dining area was littered with food particles. Got a refill on my ice water, and the lady behind the order counter added more ice, slightly too much, and dumped the excess back in with the fresh ice. If they do this in front of a customer, you have to wonder what they do in the kitchen where you can't see.
I ordered a two-piece fish meal with fries & cole slaw. At least it was served fresh & hot. However, the batter was much darker than usual, and I couldn't figure out if the batter was old, the grease was dirty (needed filtered or changed), or it was burnt. I ruled out burnt because the fish inside was tender, white, & flaky like it should be. The fries were sparse. I can say the cole slaw was flawless.
I worked for LJS many years ago as a teenager. I've eaten at many different locations. I've come to expect a certain quality & consistency. This particular visit, at this particular location, failed those expectations on nearly every level. Unless you absolutely love LJS, and your cravings are strong, I'd suggest skipping this place and choosing any of the other...
Read moreLet’s be honest: if you’re eating at a Long John Silvers, you know what you’re getting—and it ain’t health food! However, if you want some delicious deep-fried fish, Long John’s is a great way to get that fix. Unfortunately the entire chain is going downhill when it comes to the appearance of the inside of their restaurants and this location is no different. The place is in dire need of remodeling…but every location I’ve been to in the last few years is in the same boat or, sadly, permanently closed. We went to eat here around 11am and they were getting busy. We were surprised to see that there were quite a few people eating here. As we approached the register, the cashier offered no greeting or smile. She WAS, admittedly, kind after we spoke to her but a simple “how can I help you?” goes a long way with me. We ordered and waited only a few minutes before our number was called to retrieve our food at the counter. The cashier was friendly and gave us the condiments we needed. The food was the excellent, greasy goodness I remembered it to be. Everything was hot and freshly made. But as we sat and looked around at the interior, it was clean but depressing. It’s obvious that they’re getting decent business so why in the world hasn’t some attention been given to the building? coughOwnership!cough This place could be wonderful if remodeled. If the condition of the building is any indication, LJ’s may not be around much longer, but I will continue to get my greasy fish fix here every now and then until that day comes. Overall a great experience only weakened by the condition of the place and the lack...
Read moreWe were finally able to try the rebuilt restaurant. The staff was friendly and efficient, and the food was decent. A little expensive for what you get, but no real complaints about it. I was shocked at the size of the dining room. Extremely small, extremely crowded, very loud. People buzzing everywhere making their drinks and refills, and going back and forth to the counter to get condiments. My husband and I could not even hold a conversation while we ate because of the noise. We had to go back to the counter four times asking for ketchup and malt vinegar because they only gave us two or three packets at a time even after asking for a handful. I was hoping it would be like the Fayetteville location but it is just so small. Not sure if we will go back to this location to dine in. But on a good note, it was clean and the women's restroom...
