Sunny Day Café is like a second home to me. It is the only restaurant that I've been to that draws its menu offerings from so many different cuisines and succeeds in making every dish taste like you would expect it to taste if you ordered it at a high end restaurant specializing in that individual geographical variety (Greek, Cajun/Creole, Italian, Tex-Mex, French, downhome Southern, light Asian). Of course, if a good ol' American cheeseburger and fries, or a proper Maryland crab cake is more your thing, they've got you covered quite nicely there, too. Every dish that I've tried has been on-point! This is the only place that I've told the owner, Laurie, that she should raise her prices. Seriously, I once ordered a vodka penne special that they could have priced $8 to $10 higher, and I would not have had to think twice about still ordering it. The portions they serve for the price they charge are amazing, only to be surpassed by the taste and quality of the dish itself. My go-to plate is the ham and Swiss crepe, especially when Justin is working the crepe griddles, but I've never ordered anything that was less than very delicious.
Space is a bit limited; but, that kinda adds to the coziness and intimacy of the place. There is a spirited connection between staff and regulars. After only a few visits, the folks there knew what I liked, and made me feel more like a friend than a customer. Recently, on less than 48 hours notice, Laurie offered a daily special just because I mentioned that I would like to try her version of that particular dish - shrimp n' grits, which was amazing! Service at Sunny Day Café is always phenomenal!
LOVE LOVE LOVE this place, their food, and the people...
Read moreFor the past year I have been wanting to stop by this place and try it out. I had the opportunity this past week with our kids. The thing I love the most is the outdoor sidewalk seating. I absolutely love that atmosphere and surrounded by the beauty of old town Bel Air Main St, that set the tone for us to enjoy breakfast together. It is a nice dining option for the city of Bel Air for those that choose to eat in the fresh outdoor air.
Starting with the staff, they are fantastic. Energetic, proficient and attentive. Our waitress was great and it was very nice to see the other waiters supporting each other. I honestly don’t think I saw the inside bottom of my coffee mug the entire time.
Now the for the food. I just have to get this out right away ..... THEY SERVE BREAKFAST ALL DAY! I cannot count how many times we have woke up or got a late start and realized breakfast plans were done since everyone moved to lunch. Both my boys ordered pancakes with bacon. Since bacon is or should be it’s own food group, I am happy to report that it is thick, cooked perfectly and delicious. The pancakes were HUGE. Typically the kids clean their plate. Not this time. I ordered, per the suggestion of our waitress, the ham and cheese crepes. They were served with a mixed green salad with creamy Caesar if I am not mistaken. That was a very enjoyable plate that I also couldn’t finish.
All in all, I have Sunny Day Cafe 5 stars for location, atmosphere, service and food. All were top notch. I cannot wait until I can have a “breakfast” date with my wife...
Read moreMy husband and I regularly order take out from Sunny Day on Sunday mornings. He typically gets the Very Berry French Toast and I typically get the Banana Split. On many occasions the blueberry stems are still attached to random blueberries in both our dishes and the bananas are iffy at best in terms of ripeness and quality. See the attached picture. In terms of customer service we’ve lost our patience with this establishment. An example would be the time my husband tried to call in our order and was placed on “hold”. The employee set the phone down. My husband could hear all the background voices and noise. He was left on “hold” for such a long time with no one coming back to assist him that he took his phone with the call still intact and got in his car, drove to Sunny Day, parked, walked in, and when asked what he wanted told the employee to first hang up the phone as he was still “holding” but was now in front of them. Sunny Day is about 15 minutes from our house. On several occasions they couldn’t locate our order when my husband got there. And this morning a young man who works there even came up to my husband and joked with him that there always seems to be a problem with his orders. There really is no excuse for the numerous problems we seem to have there. This level of poor customer service is...
