Best Coffee in East Seattle!!

Five Stones would be my favorite coffee shop, but they consistently fail to deliver and meet expectations. My boyfriend and I have been to this coffee shop 10 times. 8 out of those 10 times, the shop has had multiple things that are out of stock. It’s always good to exceed customer expectations, but when you say you offer x,y,z and consistently fail to deliver; customer expectations change from “great, going to get my favorite avocado toast and coffee at Five Stones” to “Oh I’m not sure if they’ll be in stock today”, they start to come less. The bare minimum is to meet customer expectations; and this place fails to so. A little over a month ago, I emailed the owner to let them know my observations. Avocado is consistently out of stock, online ordering does not work, toaster outlet wasn’t working (???), and they stop serving toast an hour before they close (which I was informed was normal). The owner was super nice and told me they were going through some management changes and these concerns would be brought up. So I gave it a month to see if these small changes would be translated. I came in to this shop multiple times afterwards, some items, like lemonade (3 separate times missing) were out of stock, but I still wanted to give them a chance. And after today, two weeks since the last time lemonade was out of stock, I came in… and I will not be coming back. I tried to order lemonade, but you guessed it; they were out of stock and was informed “Yeah our lemon squeezer is broken”. My second drink of choice is a chai tea latte, but oh no, they were out of stock. Avocado toast? Out of stock. I was informed avocados get delivered Tuesday or Wednesday. I added a photo to show the sign of all of the missing items! I didn’t myself a drink, but I got my partner their coffee. I also ordered a pesto toast, which at 8am, the employee asked the other employee “Are we doing toast right now?”. Which leads me to believe, that there’s no system or schedule and when there’s no system, there’s inconsistency. Another time I tried to come in, an hour and a half before they closed, so I can get avocado toast, and their sign said “Short staffed, closing early”. I am lucky that my office is down the road, but if you do want to order from here, be sure to call in and ask if they have the items you want. Save yourself a trip. The food and drinks are great when I’m able to get them 20% of the time… but I cannot continue coming in when I am not served with what is supposedly offered.

An absolutely stellar gem of a cafe - I’m a little embarrassed by how often I go here for their avocado cream cheese toasts, which actually might be the best avo toast I’ve ever had. The toasts were more filling than I expected, and the avo cream cheese topping is creamy and fragrant. I also love their seasonal fruit & ricotta toasts, which have all been amazing and never too sweet. All the drinks I’ve tried here are fantastic. Their Cafe Stefano (hot is best!) is my favorite; the orange spritz in it adds a dreamy and refreshing profile to the latte. The mocha bacio and cold brews were also great! They know what they’re doing. Plus, the latte art here is really good and always pleasant to look at. I also love that try to cut waste by offering day-old pastries for half off! A great way to avoid wasting perfectly good treats - and they still taste good. The location is the only slight drawback, but not by much and not enough to take down a star - the cafe itself is small but extends into the joint church which offers plenty of seating, but the ambiance is different from the cafe’s. I personally don’t mind, but there’s also outdoor seating available.

DONT COME HERE IF VEGAN, LACTOSE INTOLERANT OR DONT DRINK COW MILK.

Recently, twice, Ive order a milk alternative drink and twice Ive gotten cow milk.

Im lactose intolerant. I make this clear when ordering anywhere. I know when it’s cow milk. Plus theres an up-charge for oat milk. I want what I paid for.

The first time, I went back and asked to get my order corrected. They were so surprised and shocked that the order was made wrong, they had such disbelief they could have gotten it wrong that it made me feel silly for asking for the order to be corrected but once it was corrected, at first sip I knew it was oatmilk.

The second time, my husband and I went, I’ve been here a few times not often but talked up the staff, had friendly conversation, ordered two oat milk lattes, on our way out, one was clearly milk and one was clearly oat milk.

At this point, you guys are just playing with peoples health and wellbeing. I cannot trust to get a drink made correctly as requested. We got lucky his drink, not mine, had cow milk. And we didnt go back to correct it due to how big of a fuss it was that it was a shock the order was wrong in the first place.

Loved 5 stone, it was a treat for me, so special its where I ask people to meet up with me. Never again though, you could seriously harm someone by playing...
