Umi Sushi — Restaurant in Bellevue

Went to Umi this early evening 8/4/22. Service: was ok…Our server was the only server working at the time. She was friendly and personable, but with all the tables she had it was hard to keep up with drink refills, and my request for more napkins that went unfulfilled. With the state of staffing everywhere, I forgave her for this, but couldn’t help but wonder what the management must be like for them to not be able to have, or hire, a second server on a Thursday evening.

Food: Entrees: Standard Americanized Japanese fare. Could tell much of it was microwaved, and could hear the microwave beeping in the back as we were close to the kitchen. The variations in temperature with my extremely watery veggies that just looked like they were dumped from a bag into my bento straight from the microwave was kind of unsettling. It’s not hard to steam fresh veggies. My fried rice was overly greasy, and they set a dish of what the server called “Yum Yum Sauce” right on top of my rice after probably sitting on a semi-clean prep countertop. My daughters shrimp was over cooked and over sauced for hibachi shrimp. She said it was chewy. My fiancé had the Takoyaki (which is what we came there for) and he loved it. Clear soup was delicious. Mason jars for water glasses were kind of off-theme, mostly pandering to the “HGTV trendy mom” crowd. Really confusing theming. The dumplings in the bento box were very good. I’d order a whole plate of them.

The sushi is what really stood out here, so maybe just get the sushi! 10/10 on the sushi for sure! Fiancé had Godzilla roll and was excellent. Philadelphia roll wasn’t anything to write home about- but definitely tasted very fresh, more-so than most sushi places in the area. Could tell that’s really where their true passion lies. Maybe concentrate on sushi and less on your micro-hibachi-wave options.

Please tell me what those honeydew candies were at the end…so good!…and please don’t just grab a handful and set them down with empty wrappers that people just threw back in the container. Lol we thought we got lucky and got a couple extra, but it was just empty wrappers of already consumed candy.

We will be back. I’d love to see if I get a different experience next time, but this is our 100% honest first impression and thought it would be...

It was clean, service was fine and I don’t want to give the wrong impression, maybe my experience will be different then mine. So I had to give the restaurant 3 stars instead of two because it is a nice place, but my sushi experience was not great. The calamari: was skinny rings, and only rings, the batters flavoring was bland and nothing special/ with a side of wusabi sauce and that was basically fine, but the severing was also very limited. I was horribly disappointed by the calamari for a sushi bar. The tuna tartare was something let’s just say.....isn’t anything I would order from there again. lastly, the other two orders of sushi rolls wasn’t special, and the sea weed was extremely chewy. I had four Different orders and I was not please with one of them. I will add that I did try one of the soups from my friend and it was the best type of soup I have had in Green Bay as far as Asian style soup. The broth had a great flavor, the noddles where great with great flavor, the chicken was cooked on point. I would go back only for the soup.I would like to know the inspiration on the cooking, and why they chose to make some of there stuff the way they do. As far as food goes I couldn’t give them...

I heard of a good review from this place and was excited to come. The service was so slow and disappointing! After waiting for almost an hour I asked the waiter how much longer is it gonna take for our food and he gave me a dirty/weird look. Never apologized. Our food came out in a weird manner as well. Everything came out one at a time and with a wait for each order. Our sushi that we order , I saw it was sitting out for a long time. The sushi was somewhat dry since it was sitting out. The nigiri was the worst. Very small size, something you would get at a buffet or even worse. Overall I would not come back and if you want to watch each other eat instead of eating together as a meal. Come to this place.. because that is exactly what happened. We came as a group just to watch each other eat their food while we wait for the other person's food to show up. Very disappointing. The only time the service was fast was when the waiter collected the check....
