Food wise, Jun's is some of the best sushi in the county. They offer real crab meat and other substitutions for those of us that like everything but imitation crab. The chef has let me substitute with spicy tuna as well as shrimp tempura when they were out of real crab meat. It was his idea, he was quick with a solution and happy to make the changes; I really appreciate business owners that understand how to make a customer happy. Atmosphere wise, the restaurant is cute: it's decorated well, small and intimate, and often very quiet. I sometimes feel like I can't talk to whoever I am with because I am terrible at, if not incapable of, censoring myself and I don't want to upset other diners. However, I find that they are quiet too and maybe feel the same way. I'd love for there to be some soft music or nature sounds or something. It's also worth noting that it gets very busy here, but it's worth the wait. The chef is by himself making sushi rolls and then I also catch him cleaning tables and checking people out. I'd love to see his help covering all the other bases so that he can focus on making food and making food only, it would improve efficiency and decrease his busy work load. I think he's too nice to properly delegate them into shape, but he's just the best and deserves...
Read moreJun's Sushi and Bento is hands down my favorite sushi place in Bellingham. Their ingredients are relatively fresh, well-presented, and delicious. My significant other and I come here often and we absolutely love the chef's work and the service. Definitely my favorite items to order are the caterpillar roll, the crunchy tiger roll, and the katsu-bento as they are good quality for the price. Compared to Kuru-Kuru sushi, which is a local standard in my experience, I can confidently say that quality for the price of Jun's is superior. I will say that sometimes the owners get flustered and overwhelmed when there are a large number of people, but what can you expect when it is usually three people on staff (I have only ever seen four people on-staff once the many times I've dined here for lunch/dinner and it was when they had a full house plus guests on the patio) but even then the service is decent and the food is consistent. Along with this the level of spiciness in their recipes are mediocre when I expect it to be something on the level of Thai-chili's. Nonetheless, if I could give more stars for this quaint sushi...
Read moreI have visited twice. The first time was good, my friend and I both got sushi and it was delivered quickly and very tasty and the couple who run the place were very warm and friendly. On 2nd trip we arrived about an hour before they were to close and the waitress greeted us by very forcefully saying we shouldn't order sushi because it wouldn't be ready until it closed so my friend and I ordered their ramen. I ordered their spicy ramen and he got their gyoza ramen. It took a while to get our food and the ramen was terrible. It clearly was some kind of top ramen or other prepackaged ramen with some pre cut veggies (they tasted like a plastic bag). It didn't really resemble any kind of ramen like I've had previously and was expecting. It was really disappointing and to top it all off the waitress continued to be extremely rude to the customers that tried to enter a little after us and to anyone who called in. They have the ability to make good food I think it just starts and ends with the sushi, I wouldn't recommend straying away from the part of the menu. It was such a bad experience I...
