Saltadena Bakery — Local services in Bellingham

So this is going to be a long one, but stick with me. My husband and I planned a day in Bellingham for a cake tasting from a specific bakery in the area with a flashy website, but it turned out to be a disaster - think dense and flavorless. The next day we drove around Bellingham sampling EVERY bakery. Saltadena blew the rest out of the water! They are hands down THE BEST BAKERY in Bellingham and possibly the best cake I've EVER eaten. We tried two of their cakes that day: mint chocolate and vanilla with coconut and cardamom buttercream. Those two alone were reason enough to stop looking, but we, of course, wanted more. So we got the cake sampler. I would eat that whole thing again. I highly recommend getting the sampler even for casual cake eating - it was that delicious. Never mind the fact that my best friend is a professional baker and couldn't stop eating Saltadena's cakes. They're that good!

So we ended up going with vanilla cake (which I never thought I'd do - being the chocolate fan that I am) with coconut, cardamom, AND passionfruit buttercream for the bottom tier. And then the top tier was chocolate black pepper cake with salt and pepper buttercream. It was incredible! People could not stop talking about how good both the cakes were at my wedding! My in-laws even want to have cake shipped to them to the other side of the country!

Finally, the owner - Nancy - was a delight to work with. She didn't respond super quickly because she is a busy gal, but I didn't have a problem with that. She always followed up and had everything well in hand so I never had to worry.

I am a big lover of all things food. One of my favorite things about existing in the time & place that I do - is learning about, traveling for, and experiencing new food. Suffice to say, I’ve eaten a lot of phenomenal dishes in my life. Every once in a while, I try something that stands out above the rest. The kind of food that you will probably never forget the first time you ever tried it Their naked pecan cake was one of those things. I typically don’t have a huge sweet tooth, but I think I would sell my kidney for this cake. The first time I had it was November 2023, when my mom brought one to our Thanksgiving dinner. Dessert table was packed and somehow this cake went relatively untouched, that is until I got a hold of a slice. I think I took 85% of that cake home. And I don’t think I I’ve stopped thinking about it since then. Long story sort of short, I consumed a little too much legal herb last Friday and happened upon a post from this bakery on Facebook. In my altered state, I pre-ordered a cake on a whim. And that’s how I ended up driving five hours from Olympia to Bellingham and back just for this cake. I would do it again. We were having a timeless and classic wedding, and she matched that to a T with her beautiful cake.
