I’m calling out the reviewer LAUREL that wrote a review calling out the three reviewers.
First time EVER being asked to leave a restaurant while we were sitting at the BAR side with 6 of us facing a wall (not 8 of us).
My friend politely asked if he could move over to the bar when some of the seats open up (so we weren’t facing the wall) and the bar staff said ‘sure, no problem’.
When the seats opened up, my friend POLITELY asked if he could move over.
Then another female staff chimed in and said ‘actually these seats are reserved’.
First off, everyone knows that bar seats are NEVER reserved. It’s possible she just didn’t want us to sit there.
My friend said, ‘okay, no problem hun’. She quickly snapped back and said ‘don’t call me hun’.
It quickly escalated to being labeled as the female staff being “uncomfortable” and she told us we were being “disruptive” for the last 20 minutes?!
This is FAR from anything remotely close to harassment or being disruptive.
Yes we were laughing, cracking jokes and enjoying ourselves – since when was that unacceptable while being seated at a bar with 6 friends?
Note this is NOT a formal dining situation.
We are a group of friends that just finished playing a round of golf in the area – we weren’t here to cause any trouble.
I was having a conversation with my girlfriend and all of a sudden I overheard ‘I’m going to have to ask you guys to leave’.
All of us were in complete utter SHOCK.
We had already ordered more drinks that I saw were READY at the bar, our entrees were starting to come out and the wait staff were told to turn back to the kitchen with our meals.
Wonder what they did with all that food we ordered that was ready.... Either re-heated and re-served to others or they lost out on a lot of food costs....
ALSO I will clarify – there was NO line up outside the restaurant so not sure what you’re referring to there, Laurel.
There was NO challenging of the staff – we were simply asking why we were being asked to leave?!
Then she decides to pull ‘I’m the owner’ card.
Okay Izzy – if you are the owner then you should understand what it means to be in the hospitality business. You know there was clearly no ill intention and no harassment and it was completely unnecessary to ask us to leave.
We were NOT there for an hour. All we had was our oysters and our drinks. The restaurant had already made our second round of drinks and our meals were ready but instead of serving us like the normal customers we are, they decided to make us leave and lose out.
In addition, they tried to give us the full bill for what we hadn’t been served yet.
So no, it’s not absurd to suggest we were overcharged. It was absolutely true. The bill was just placed in front of us, charging us for all items we ordered and didn’t receive.
The bill was reviewed then UPDATED to remove what wasn’t served. We paid $280 and got kicked out after 30 minutes.
You know it’s an issue when your own bar staff come outside to apologize to us, confused, as we were.
I’m beyond disappointed with the experience here. It really felt like we were being picked on as we are a minority group.
Izzy & Dan – suggest you brush up on your customer service skills and take another look at how you handle these types of situations. We too are business owners in the service industry and this is one hell of an anomaly in our many years...
Read more7/18/25 update i will never complain again. i came here for my birthday meal because it was so amazing last time and they absolutely blew me away with how divine the food and drinks were. i got the rutabaga which was a culinary EXPERIENCE and my fiance got the bavette which was GENUINELY the best steak either of us g have ever eaten. there were no service delays or anything, genuinely had one of the best meals of my life. go here. fr.
okay girlies. this was the BEST MEAL i have had in bellingham in a HOT minute. the space is adorable too!!! absolutely in love with the art on the walls. The drinks? immaculate. the salmon montadito? divine. the black cod? delicious. and the ricotta gnocchi? i would give up my hypothetical first born for a lifetime supply of it. the food also came out so fast which was such a pleasant surprise! is it a little pricey? yeah. is it worth the price? absolutely. my one and ONLY complaint is that while the server/host/bartender were all friendly, like VERY friendly, there didn’t seem to be a whole lot of organization. we placed our cocktail order 15-20 minutes before we got them, and while they were delicious, it just seemed a little long (especially because we were seated at the bar). i don’t want to rag on the bartender either because i could tell he was busy! however, i watched 2 other coworkers asked if he needed help and be told no. fair enough, but a 20 minute wait for a drink when the food came out in ten was a little wild. also, the host was the one who came by and took our food order after noticing that the bartender hadn’t taken it yet. which hey, totally fine, but a little weird since we were seated at the bar. last tiny con— i put in an order for a glass of wine while taking the last bites of our entree and it never came. i didn’t want to ask for an update since the cocktails took so long to be made, and we were nearly done with our food with dessert on the way (which by the way, the matcha panacotta is a must try. do yourself a favor.) we weren’t charged for the wine though so we decided to just let it go, no biggie! for one seafood dish, two entrees, two cocktails and dessert it was $150, which for the quality and flavor was absolutely worth it. i’m hoping that next time we come i can change my review to five stars! definitely would recommend checking out this delicious and...
Read moreThe reuben croquettes were weird. Like a panko fried wet cat food, but flavored like delicious corned beef, texturally confusing, both chewy and slimy. Bavette was absolutely excellent. Perfectly seasoned, but you could still taste the meat, and cooked to order. The halibut was overcooked, but the beurre blanc on it was delicious. The burger was perfectly seasoned and cooked to a light pink, but the patties were small, and irregularly shaped, so it was difficult to eat and it fell apart. The bun was vey soft and the dish was quite wet, so it was messy, but I enjoyed it. To call it two patties is misleading. It would've been smarter to make them into one patty, since it was the same amount of meat. The fries are the best impression of true French fries I've seen in the US, but they were so salty that it burned our mouths, and they were undercooked. I ordered a soda water, and the server arrived with a $4 bottle of mineral water, already opened. I said I meant from the fountain, he said they don't have one. I was annoyed that he didn't clarify beforehand, and instead basically bullied me into paying for something I didn't really want. Mocktails are the same price as cocktails at $13. The atmosphere is highly curated. They obviously spent a fortune renovating the space from its previous incarnation.
TLDR: Food could be great. It's poorly executed for the price, as if the (very young) people in the kitchen are following recipes but don't understand how to cook or what it's like to eat the food. Red meat is well executed but I it's a sad day for fish that get cooked there. Fries are offensively salty. The owners, prominently featured on their fancy website, were nowhere in sight, apparent by the inconsistency of the dishes. It is very bougie, but you don't get what you're paying for. Will not return until they work...
