Señor Lopez Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in Bellingham

I wanted to write a decent review about this place because I did enjoy my mezcal margarita. But, my experience was not pleasant at all. For the past four years I’ve tried a New Mexican restaurant on my birthday and this year I decided to try Senor Lopez. The first waitress that greeted me was not welcoming at all. She even took my ID and asked me to verify my address as if I was giving her a fake ID. After this I was about to leave and try another restaurant. But, I started drinking my margarita and decided to stay. The food was OK. Nothing to return to and this is the very first Mexican restaurant I went to where they didn’t offer you anything for your birthday. Really wish I would have tried a different spot. I 100% regret spending my birthday alone here. Oh, and the first waitress stopped coming to my table and avoided me like the plague but was assisting guests right beside me. She made me very uncomfortable. But, the second waitress was pretty nice.

Absolutely loved my first visit here! We did the queso appetizer which was so massive you could share it easily with at least 4 people. We also did the Senor Lopez margaritas which were fabulous. Each one comes with its own refill in a shaker so you're really getting 2 margs in one. Nate our server was a highlight! He had great recommendations, checked in on us frequently, and was really fun to chat with. He was such a gentleman and poured my refills for me at every opportunity. I ordered the molcahete for my entrée and WOW. What a stunner. Absolutely delicious flavor and the presentation was very impressive. We sat outside which is right on the street so if you don't like noise and wind I'd try inside. But we love people watching and don't mind the breeze so we loved it. Really can't recommend this place enough! I've always felt that bellingham struggles with good Mexican food, this is definitely my new front runner I'm so mad it took me so long to try it so learn from...

We came here for dinner and ordered two dishes. The first dish was supposed to come with guacamole and sour cream. It didn’t. They also didn’t put any cheese in the chili relleno. The other dish was specifically ordered to have no diary but it came with Cheese and sour cream. It also had French fries mixed in. Both dishes tasted strongly of dish soap and we couldn’t eat them. I saw into the back from where I sat that the kitchen used a CMA dish machine. The door type rack cleaning and sanitizing dishwasher. I use one of these in my work and unless it’s incorrectly adjusted it would never have soap after cleaning. I can only assume the clean dishes were held in an unsafe location allowing soap to spill on to them or even worse the machine was incorrectly adjusted meaning all dishes were the same as ours. Our waitress was very helpful and friendly and we only were charged for one of the two dishes. Good service but...
