I love the Salvadoran food here! It is a nice alternative to typical Mexican food, especially the common Tex-Mex food found everywhere in the U.S. The proprietor, Mario, has been serving up his delicious dishes for many years, and the good quality and tasty results of his food demonstrate that. His menu includes numerous full meals with items such as Pupusas, open-face Tacos, Tamales, Carne Loca, Fajitas, Quesadillas, etc., and he also makes huge Wonder Burritos, Tortas and Super Tacos, with choices of Vegetarian, Chicken, Chorizo, Asada and Pork which can be made in combinations. Mario's homemade salsas are great toppings also. Plus, sacks of homemade tortillas are sold, and a variety of pastries such as turnovers (apple, raspberry and cream), quesadillas (like crumbly, sweet cornbread with a bit of cream cheese) and more are baked and on display for selection. Beverages include fountain drinks, tea and coffee, bottled and canned drinks and more, and sometimes traditional Salvadoran-style Horchata is also available. Overall, Mario uses a nice variety of healthy foods, and I'm especially fond of the number of vegetables he includes. I can always customize my order at his restaurant.
The atmosphere is, to me, a classic Latino cafe, comfortable and nothing too fancy, and is very family friendly, with no alcohol served, and the bathrooms are nice and clean. If I'm downtown and in a hurry, I can get food quickly at Super Mario's Food Truck on the corner of N Forest and E...
Read moreThis is no ordinary taco truck! I've eaten at both Super Mario's trucks many times, and today was the first time I've eaten at their restaurant on Northwest. The food is El Salvadorian, NOT Mexican, so don't go there expecting it to be the same. It's not. The menu items are similar to Mexican ones, but they are prepared differently than I've ever had them. It's a refreshing change. My three favorites are the quesadillas, the pupusas and the burritos. Also, the family that owns and runs it is super friendly. I can't recommend this...
Read moreThe wonder burrito is the best burrito in town! You're out of luck if you're a picky eater, though. There is a massive communication gap between the servers and the cooks. I've gotten what I actually ordered about 4 out of 10 times. I'm not sure if there's a language barrier or the cooks just do whatever they want,
I've also had bad luck ordering over the phone. Not only have they lost my orders before, they once took my order for a burrito knowing they were out of tortillas. I drove all the way to the restaurant for...
