AN UNACCEPTABLE AND INCREDIBLY FRUSTRATING EXPERIENCE! I strongly urge you to review your security footage to confirm what I’m about to describe. According to my Google timeline, I parked across the street at 11:35 am yesterday. My girlfriend and I (a party of 2) walked in around 11:40 am, hoping for a nice meal. I spoke to the host, who casually noted us down for a table. What struck me as odd was how he folded the blank bottom half of the page underneath the list, and wrote my name and number in a cramped space at the top right-hand corner, starting a new column.
When I asked him about the wait time, we glanced at the waitlist. There were a few people ahead of us, and the list was just above halfway down the page on the left side, with about half the names crossed out. He said, "20-25 minutes." Given the short wait and few parties ahead of us, we decided to wait outside. We found a spot on the third bench, in front of Anchor Tavern, as the other two benches were already occupied.
After waiting outside for 35 minutes—10 minutes longer than promised—we noticed a troubling pattern. New arrivals, who waited outside like us, were promptly called in and seated. The sidewalk was soon filled with people who had arrived after us, yet they were seated before us! Infuriated, I went inside to confront the host and inquire about our wait time. To my shock, he told me it would be even longer because, incredibly, I was at the bottom of the list!
I looked at the list and was baffled. It had grown absurdly long, with names that weren’t there when we initially signed up. This was outrageous! If those names had been on the list from the start, I wouldn't have wasted my time waiting. He realized his mistake but still had the audacity to say, "I think you were here," and scribbled two dashes towards the bottom left column of the waitlist, as if that fixed anything. I pointed out that we had been much higher on the list and watched everyone who arrived after us get seated while the sidewalk cleared. His response? He accused me of "looking for a problem" and arrogantly claimed he "knows how to do his job" and it was his "prerogative" to place names wherever he wanted. I couldn’t believe it! I told him it didn’t matter where he placed my name as long as people were seated in the order they arrived. His dismissive reply was that he couldn’t change the list and I just had to wait because "that’s how it works."
Fuming, I went back outside and watched two more groups of four, one of which met up with friends from across the street 30 minutes after we arrived, get their calls and go in to be seated. One of the guys in that party said, "I think we’re next," and the girl next to him made eye contact with me and smugly said, "I don’t think so." Of course, he was right—they got their call shortly after and were seated before us. By now, the sidewalk was clear except for an older gentleman and his child. We had been waiting for a full hour, and everyone who arrived after us was gone, yet we were still stuck on that bench in front of Anchor Tavern.
I finally went in to ask for the host's name, but he completely ignored me, dismissing me with a casual, "This is just the way it works" before walking away. This was the last straw. I took a photo of the waitlist as proof and left, extremely frustrated. If those names had been on the list before us, I would never have waited and would have gladly come back another day. The entire situation was mishandled from start to finish. I've included the waitlist for reference. Check the EXIF data on the photo for the date and time stamp. Even if you can't see what he’s writing on the surveillance camera, you can still see where on the page he’s writing. Also, if the list was kept in the correct order as he claims, only two parties would have come in after us between 11:40 am and 12:45 pm. Does that even sound right? I’m not claiming it was intentional, but he clearly made a mistake, realized it, and then gave me attitude...
Read moreMy friend and I walked into this restaurant yesterday for takeout. Previously, we tried to call in but the number didn't work. When we arrived, we patiently waited to be at least acknowledged but we were literally ignored for 3 mins. Finally someone came to take our order and when she was taking it she seemed very distracted with things going around her and was not knowledable about the menu at all. My homefries were so hard. I asked for country ham and the waitress just looked at me and said "ham". I assumed they didn't have country ham and I was right, wish she could've just said that. After our order was taken a man walked in and he had the same issue with trying to get someone's attention. He was blatantly ignored when he said good morning to a waitress and she blew right past him. He was actively walking up to staff and no one took his order the entire time we were there. The restaurant was not packed. When we went to pay I asked to split the bill, she spilt it down the middle and I didn't even bother to correct her. We meant to split it by what we got, we each got separate things. We were entirely disappointed with the...
Read moreI had the pleasure of dining at Comfi in Belmar for the first time, and I can confidently say I’ll be back! The restaurant was bustling on a Sunday morning, but we only had to wait about 10 minutes, which was impressive. We kicked things off with the Strong and Sexy, and the Kielbasa and Potato Pancakes, both of which were absolutely delicious. The portions were huge—so much so that we had enough to take home for later!
The Chicken Caesar Salad Wrap was packed to the brim with fresh ingredients and the crispy fries on the side were the perfect complement. But the real showstopper was the “I Only Want You” French Toast. This dish was incredible—loaded with fresh fruit, whipped cream, and served on thick, delicious seven-grain bread. It was a sweet treat that really hit the spot.
The service was quick and friendly, and the vibe was warm and cozy. If you’re in Belmar and craving a hearty, satisfying meal with excellent portions, Comfi is definitely...
