The Inn at the Shore had been suggested to us by locals who were throwing a retirement party at the Taylor Pavilion on the boardwalk along the beach at Belmar. The beach, which is a very nice beach, lots of sand, a boardwalk, and relatively few people, was maybe 4 blocks from the Inn. The Inn might have been 5 blocks from the pavilion. Good restaurants are within easy walking distance to the Inn. You can stroll along the boardwalk for miles if you feel inclined.
The Inn is an older and charming building with updated rooms, with quirky touches. My partner was intrigued with the decor. The Inn boasts a great covered porch, and comfortable seating, that accommodates coffee drinking, reading and sipping the occasional adult beverage. The room we had was comfortable, with suitable privacy, a good bed and a private bath. The three nights we stayed at the Inn we slept well.
Linda and Bill provided towels and chairs and access medallions for our times at the beach. Parking is free along the streets.
Notably, the Inn attracts repeat visitors, and these folks were consistently friendly. They, along with Linda, provided insightful tips on local restaurants and things to do in this fine little town.
Central to the experience at the Inn is breakfast. Bill does a superior job with French toast, eggs the way you like them, seasonal fruit, toast, juice, the works. Breakfast is not an after-thought and Bill does a very impressive job. Bill made the best western omelette I ever had-- twice.
We will be coming back. And we have been recommending this Inn to our friends...
Read moreWe recently returned home from our annual trip to the Inn at the Shore in Belmar. The trip is always a delight, even when it rains for 3 of the 5 days that we were there. The Inn is cosy and comfortable with tastefully appointed rooms, a large living room, and a wonderful wrap around porch. We have been coming here for many years and are always happy to see Bill and Linda. The beach is beautiful and the boardwalk is quintessential Jersey Shore. One great feature of the Inn is that Bill Neely does fantastic made to order breakfasts for guests every morning. This year we had a bit of a challenge in that one person in our group was recently diagnosed with celiac disease, a condition in which the person cannot consume anything with gluten in it: think wheat, rye, barley, etc. Having enjoyed Bill's blueberry pancakes for many years, there was some distress that this would no longer be possible. However, in contacting the Inn, we learned that, not only could Bill make delicious gluten free blueberry pancakes, but he knew all about the risks of cross contamination from nearby wheat products in the kitchen and saw to it that the food served not only tasted great but also was safe to eat! So great! On the day that we were to leave, the sun finally came out so we stole an hour on the beach before leaving. The ocean gods blessed us with the sight of at least a dozen dolphins meandering down the coast and then, shortly before we left, a whale! Belmar is magical and the Inn at the Shore is the ideal place to stay! Come...
Read moreWe recently returned from yet another lovely stay at the Inn at the Shore in Belmar, NJ. The weather wasn't the best; of the 5 days that we were there, it rained for the better part of 3 of them. Nonetheless, we had a great time. Bill and Linda are great hosts, always available to provide whatever you need. And this year, we had a special request for Bill. One person in our group was recently diagnosed with celiac disease, a condition in which you cannot eat anything containing wheat, rye, or barley. I reached out to Linda and mentioned that there was some distress because the usual request for blueberry pancakes wouldn't work. Not to worry! Bill was able to produce gluten free blueberry pancakes that were delicious! And furthermore, as a former professional chef, he was fully versed on the risks of cross contamination! So our stay was great as always. The ocean being a mere 2 blocks away meant that, between rain showers, we could get out to either sit on the beach or take a walk on the boardwalk. And on our last day, when the sun finally came out, and as we spent a last hour sitting on the beach, we were treated to the sight of several dolphins meandering down the coast and a single whale, probably a juvenile humpback! Really! You should come here! It's magical and the Inn is the best place to...
