GREED PREVAILED!!!
I would like to first state that I did attempt several times to contact the owner by text and by leaving phone messages. "Heather" who works in the office finally answered and told me that the owner may or may not return my calls, that it is up to him. However, she confirmed that he did receive my messages.
I chartered a trip on the Miss Belmar, 11/6 7:30am - 2:30 pm. I called around 5:30 am and was told by staff that there was "plenty of room". By the time the boat sailed, I was told that there were 105pp on board. The cost for most was $95 + $15 for pole rental + $6/$10 for one jig, which was all there was to fish with. No live bait. This little detail was not posted on their website. If you had no additional money, you were not fishing. My jig was eventually chomped in half by a dog fish, so I had to buy another $10 jig. The person next to me lost their jig in the massive tangle of lines and had to buy another $10 jig. He eventually spent $30 on jigs.
Customers spent half the time untangling lines. We had to turn back to back in order to get our poles in the water. Even then, not everyone was able to fish at the rail. I and other customers took turns letting people fish while we stepped back. Unfortunately, it was one young man's first experience fishing on a boat.
There were not enough seats. Customers had to climb over each other to get to the bathroom and the galley. My back hurt badly from having to stand and climb.
Out of 105pp, NO ONE caught any keepers. Every spot that the captain stopped at was fished no longer than 5-10 minutes. Having fished all of my life, I understand that possibly not catching fish is part of the experience. However, it was very clear that the owner did not care about the experience nor the safety and comfort of his customers. It was all about the money. So much so that the crew herded everyone on board so fast that not everyone had time to pay or fill out their Coast Guard registration card. Midtrip, the crew demanded that everyone stop fishing so that they could collect registration cards and sort out the customers who had not paid. Unreal!!!
Before docking, the crew ran around signing everyone's stub, offering $10 off on the next trip. The captain asked the customers not to blame the crew for the horrible trip but to make sure to tip them because they depended on tips. I contributed, although they did absolutely next to nothing, except help with untangling lines and taking an occasional dog fish off a hook. They spent most of the time hanging out in the galley. A nearby customer could be heard tallying what the owner probably raked in for the trip, around $12,500.
This was my fourth trip on the Miss Belmar. However, it's time to look for another charter. There are many other charters who put the safety and comfort of the customers over...
Read moreI booked a fishing trip for myself and my son through Groupon. I selected the August 12, 2024 trip from 3:30 PM to 7:00 PM. On Groupon it stated that Miss Belmar does daily trips from 7:30 AM to 12 PM and from 3:30 PM to 7 PM. After buying the Groupon tickets I was directed to the miss Belmar website to book a trip on their website. I selected August 12 for the afternoon fishing trip that started at 3:30 PM. When I arrived at the Boat, I was told by the captain that they haven't done the afternoon fishing trips in a long time, he asked me to check my confirmation email in which we found out that even though I selected to attend the afternoon fishing trip, the website defaulted us to the 7:30 AM trip. The captain also proceeded to tell me that I was the only "jackass" that this has happened to. I called the number listed for this fishing boat, and the lady proceeded to tell me that the information on the website is really old and It hasn't been updated a long time and that I should've called to verify our booking. I asked her what we were gonna do about this, and she told me to reach out to Groupon to request a refund. After speaking with Groupon, they advise me that they had to send a request to the company to request a refund from them. They reached out to the Miss Belmar boat asking for a refund and the response they got was "he missed the boat, not our fault". I have screenshots of the Groupon Add and the companies website where it states that they do daily fishing trips, one starting at 7:30 AM and the other...
Read moreLITTLE MAN!!!! I went on Miss. Belmar in memorial day weekend. The crew started very nice and very helpful. During our fishing stop, I caught a fish and thought it was ok to keep since it was busy so I didn't bother to measure it. I unhooked my catch and walked back to the cafeteria are where my cooler is to put my catch in the cooler. The youngest of the crew is a tall Caucasian young man in his late teens yells at me from other side of the cafeteria "LITTLE MAN, you can't keep that" I am like"excuse me, did you just called me Little man?" And without apologizing yanks the fish out of my hand and walks past me to toss it aboard.
I am a 5' 6 but the young man was 5' 10 or maybe 6 yet that's not a reason to belittle anyone. Also I am an olive or like other like to say brown skin which they expect me not to speak a lick of English but that also not a reason to disrespect anyone.
I hope the tall young man learns never to underestimate "little people" after all some great and some other crazy leaders were "little man" but it guess he skipped history class as well as manner education!
The young man was on top of me for the rest of the trip and kept unhooking my fish and tossing them. I didn't want to ruin the trip for my group since we were many.
Unfortunately I bought a couple of trips for the season and I will be back on Miss Belmar soon.
Stay tuned for...
