So, I was pretty close to giving a 4 or 5 star review, but then things took a turn. Restaurant was clean and nice looking inside and out. Hostess was kind and we were sat quickly for an early dinner on Saturday. Waiter was nice and did everything pretty well. Our food was cooked very well. My steak was cooked exactly how I wanted it, the chicken salad my wife had looked great and she enjoyed, and the chicken fried steaks were the best compared to other Hoffbrau’s we’ve been to. After getting halfway through our meal, we realized none of us had water. After 5-7 min we got the waiter and he went to get us water. 5ish minutes later he finally came back with the waters (so 10-12 minutes with our meal while NONE of us had water, which was when I was thinking about knocking it down to 4 stars from 5). Then, in an unfortunate turn of events, the waters and a root beer were dumped all over myself, the table, 2-3 of our half eaten plates, my niece, and her phone. I mean, my shirt and pants were WET with root beer, and we really were concerned about the iPhone that had soda poured all over it. Felt terrible for the waiter (stuff happens and you could tell he was immediately panicked). He did great recovering from the mistake, told us our meals would be comped, tried cleaning what he could and then left to get more towels. When he came back, he offered us free desserts (which half the table doesn’t do sweets, so that wasn’t enticing to most, but 2 ppl got brownies). It’d been 10-15 minutes after the mess was made and THE MANAGER NEVER CAME TO OUR TABLE. We had to flag her down to discuss the cell phone (we weren’t sure what damage was done/if liquid got in and if we left and it died what should we do?) so she came over and gave us her GM’s information. She didn’t apologize for the situation, but she DID tell us that she did the same thing yesterday (spilled drinks) and that our waiter just had a panic attack about the situation (which couldn’t be true because he was out and about minutes later, and that’s not how panic attacks work).
That was it. No “we’re so sorry this happened”, no “here’s a coupon for next time”, no “your meals are on us, is there anything else we can do?”. Nothing.
THEN, we got our bill. For the full amount of food and 2 comped brownies. Even though we were told they’d be comped and even though our dinner was essentially ended by the ordeal.
Food was great, service was good, I would even have that waiter again (like I said, stuff happens, this 2 star review wasn’t his fault). But, management absolutely should have handled the situation better. We could have left laughing and fine, but instead kinda left with a bad taste in our mouth. Management earned the 2 stars this time around. Will email/call the GM to see what he says. Maybe we’ll be back one day (hope to be, as living in Benbrook we were excited to see this restaurant be...
Read moreVisited this location for the first (and only) time on 1/3/23 for a late lunch after my sister got married. Let me preface this review with we started eating at Hoffbrau years ago at the University Dr. location; then more recently Haltom City location, both locations multiple times. Always have had wonderful visits with solid experiences all the way around. This was not the case here on 1/3/23. First of all, the plate of food I used to order has been removed from the menu. No big deal. Found something else. We wanted an appetizer of split half fried pickles and half fried jalapeno chips. We were willing to pay for the more expensive jalapeno item; just mix it with pickles. Waitress told us they no longer do half orders, and the buttons have been removed from their system. My issue here is simply asking the manager to accommodate instead of just telling us no, we can't do that. How hard is it? Next, there was a shrimp plate special advertised at the host stand, but no price listed on the sign. My sister asks how much the plate costs, and the waitress tells her $15.99. Food comes, and we eat. It was great as usual. Consistent with the other locations. The bill comes, and we were charged $19.99 for the shrimp plate. When brought to the waitress' attention, her response is, let me verify with my manager that that IS the correct price. I have to tell her that she needs to mention that she told us she quoted us $15.99. In the end, they removed a side item from the bill to accommodate the price difference. Food is 5 stars. Service was 2 stars due to the lack-luster, average, so-so execution. Not impressed. Could have been more proactive with accommodating the appetizer and ensuring our bill was correct. Will stick to the Haltom City location I am used to. They have made accommodations in the past without any questions. Going above and beyond for simple, special requests is the right attitude. This location could use some...
Read moreThis was my first dinner out as husband and wife. Have always wanted to come here as I've heard good things. So as something new to try, we decided to go.
The atmosphere is lively and very family friendly. Even though it's memorial day, so it was likely a bit calmer, which we liked.
Menu was simple with a good variety of options. We decided to do the Texas two step. Wife ordered medium well. I ordered medium. Got salads, baked potatoes, mash, three cheese mac n cheese, and green beans with a small side of jalapeño gravy.
Salads were nice and fresh. Vegetables nice and crisp. They were served in a very chilled bowl. Fantastic.
The cast iron corn bread was delicious. Had a sweet savory taste. The honey butter was mouth watering. (Rolls were even better!!) Honestly, best part of the meal.
Steaks came out over cooked. My piece of steak was much smaller than my wife's piece. As such it was cooked medium well on the thick end and well done on the thin end. For a steak house, with not as many guests, was a bit disappointed. But the flavor of the steak was very flavorful and a good cut a beef. Paired with the gravy, it was actually tasty. Note: jalapeño gravy was an upcharge of $0.59, waitress didn't mention it, but it may have been on the menu. Noting just in case it isnt.) Had hoped the steak would have been cooked a closer to order given it's a steak house. Not cooked to my preferred temp, but also wasn't shoe leather, so was still palatable.
Mashed potatoes were delightful. It was creamy like a whipped a potatoes, but had thickness. It was fantastic. My wife devoured her baked potato, so I'm going to say it was excellent as well.
Mac and cheese was lovely. Creamy and cooked well. Very enjoyable and delicious. Green beans were the short end. They weren't quite as good as I had hoped. Edible, but zero seasoning.
Overall, we had a good first meal as husband and wife. Will be back, as there are other cuts of steaks and menu items we'd...
