Safeway — Restaurant in Benicia

Updated 9/28/2023: Once again I was charged $8.99 for $1.99 produce. Also overcharged $2 for a pack of ham. I took the checker back to show him the price of the ham and he said ok, you are right. Yet, when we got back to the register, he said that I hadbeen charged correctly! I asked to see the manager. He then gave me the refund.This checker was tending the Self Check. I had to WAIT 15 MINUTES for him to return to the register to help me as he was helping someone disabled to their car. Then he proceeded to help everyone BUT me with the refund. (There were people waiting for help at the self-checks so he helped them first.) I DID NOT EVEN RECEIVE A THANK YOU FOR ALL THIS WAITING not to mention an apology for HIS ATTEMPT TO CHEAT ME of course. Another reason i give this store 1 star is because Sometimes I have to LEAVE because all the lines are ABSURD). It doesn't matter if you go on Saturday at 7pm. They will still have only one 1 checkout open and a person at self check. IT DOESN'T GET WORSE THAN THIS SAFEWAY.!!!

Previous review: Yesterday It was 12:30pm lunch hour and there was only one worker in the whole deli. I had to wait 10 mins to get served because she was making sandwiches. She was not happy to assist me w/ deli salads because there was a line for sandwiches.. Hot chicken breast in deli case was so overcooked it was like concrete. Threw it out. The deli chicken salad had so much mayo I had to rinse it all off and put my own mayo in it. Potato salad was the same but could not be fixed Thown out. Prepared raw Jamaican chicken thighs were so salty none of us could eat them. Thrown out. Many deli workers do not know what a 1/3 (or 1/4) pound of sliced meat means. They ask you what that is. Or a 1/4-inch thick slice. Unbelievable. Don't buy chocolate chips here as they are exposed to heat in storage and ruined...have powdery white coating. Tasteless. Thrown out. This store doesn't have an accurate check out system!! For example, once I was charged $9/lb for zucchini. Specials prices are often not reflected on receipt.. ALWAYS CHECK YOUR RECEIPTS! THEY ARE WRONG ABOUT 1/3 OF THE TIME.They have to give you the overcharged item free in that case and if it is over $5 , they have to give you a $5 gift card in addition. I WISH BAGELS AND COOKIES IN THE BAKERY WEREN'T BAKED TOO DARK so often. I usually can't buy them for this reason. They would sell more if the BAKER PAID ATTENTION. Sometimes i find packaged lunch meat or dairy that expired WEEKS ago! BE CAREFUL! A whole fresh crab from the seafood counter in Dec was rotten. I had to return it. FORGET ABOUT PICK UP at the curb here. Nobody comes out so you have to go in and find someone to call in the back. Then you are told they will bring it out in at least 5 mins. And this is when you are the ONLY person in pick up. At Raleys they are waiting for you and bring it out in one minute because it's...

Many shelves were COMPLETELY empty..not even price stickers on them! They've had empty shelves of wet cat food for months..the small amount of cat food they carry at all compared to half an aisle of dog food which is always full..they BLATANTLY mark up their prices double to cover their BOGO sales.. cereal for $8 a box when all the others of the same size were $4...they also do the same for their clearance 50% off area..it ends up being actually a little more than the items regular price..toothpaste 50% off from $10 down to $5..all you have to do is walk a few aisles to comparison shop..also..any free items on their app are NEVER in stock..since the app started I have NEVER found any free item there..Im told they never carried the item when I saw it there days before it went to "free" OR the price sticker is there even though they "dont carry it" or its covered up...the app is store specific btw so Safeway knows whats in the store..may be pulled to the back room but its there..I know this cuz Ive talked to Safeway about their app re their delivery...if it isnt in stock its not on the app..sooo I mean, I get it...the store needs to make money...but not having in stock items on the shelves AND locking up 90% of the liquor dept as well as others is NOT good customer service..especially when it takes an act of god to get someone to come to help a customer get their locked up item..then they show up annoyed or come all the way there to tell the customer they cant open the cabinet cuz they dont have the key and the person who does is on break..if a person finally gets their medicine or booze or whatever, they are then told their items will be at a certain register...and when youre ready to check out, your item isnt at that register so you have to start the process over...again..the store needs to make money, but there has to be a better way...I myself, if I know I need to get something locked up there will shop somewhere else..like the Rite Aid next door...they dont imply their customers are thieves like Safeway does...and btw...While waiting for my ride the other day I had to back up my cart as I was blocking a tiny older woman from exiting the store from the meat dept as she was wearing like a 5XL down knee length coat STUFFED with meat and seafood that was falling out of the coat..as I was told months ago watching a woman leave with an ENTIRE cart of laundry detergent while a manager took her picture, nothing can be done...You gotta do something!! Locking up the whole store, allowing people to load up carts to raise our prices that are already high, not stocking your shelves with product in stock, and not carrying one category of food (cat) and overstocking another (dog) is gonna send people elsewhere, speaking as someone with decades of retail management and loss prevention...

I just transitioned out of the army so I might be overreacting and it’s no one’s fault for not knowing that, but I am pretty skittish, yelling or slamming things tends to raise my heart rate. I try to keep to myself. I brought my things up to the cashier, I was trying to be friendly some of my things were scanned with another persons. I said oh those are mine. She pulled one of the deviders out and slammed it on the board. It launched me into a certain state, which is ok, I have to deal with these things, but then she started to discipline me; I felt so worthless for a second, then I asked if she was joking, she said she wasn’t. I walked away without my things. Had to leave,it was for the best that I just go. Only bad things happen when people yell and slam things like that so I just left. Didn’t even get my groceries. I won’t go back here. I’ll go somewhere else. I know this isn’t going to change things but, I can’t deal with people yelling or lighting me up for something so small. It’s probably petty of me to leave this message but I figure just writing about it will get it out of me and I won’t...
