Update (12-19): Returned for a second visit to have dinner. Unfortunately, HPD is losing 2 stars, from the original 5 star review. With this updated review, I have included a picture of my dinner entree, the Sagebrush Chicken. I ordered it because it sounded SO good. When I got my plate, I was extremely disappointed with the serving size, but even more disappointed once I took the first bite. It was very bland and lacked any desirable substance. I was actually rather pissed that I was going to be paying nearly 12 dollars for this meal. Look at that picture...the food there is portioned for a child! My friend's dinner tasted better than mine, but was also only sub-par. We decided to order desserts as well. The bread pudding was non-traditional, but tasted good. The apple pie slice was bland and VERY soggy. Our server was friendly, but very socially awkward. He made us feel rushed and more than once, had a very impatient tone and demeanor. We will likely go back for breakfast, but I don't see myself going for dinner again. I feel like it was a waste of money and I did not get what I paid for. This was my first visit to High Plains diner for a meal and I have to say, I was impressed. The service was fast and friendly, the food was delicious and came out quickly, despite the restaurant being busy for breakfast. Everything on our order was accurate and our server, Lyn, was very attentive and professional. I can't think of any other place in this area that I would rather eat. The whole experience was great and we will be back! I would really love to see High Plains Diner have more advertising closer to the highway and truck stop. I'm sure more people, locals and travelers alike, would prefer to choose to sit down and eat a real meal, instead of choosing McDonald's or Taco Bell.

When I was a little girl, Colorado was filled with little ma and pop dinners. That time has passed, and more commercialized establishments have moved in. But, there are still little secrets spread throughout the plains. The High Plains Dinner is the secret I have been keeping. This dinner here in Bennett is reminiscent of my childhood. From the atmosphere to the wait staff and the food this country town dinner brings that down home cooking feel. We live pretty far from the restaurant, but the drive is worth it for sure. Sandy, our server is our waitress every time, she treats us like family and gets the order right every time and makes sure we are given the attention our large party requires. We love this little hidden jem still left in Colorado. The food is made from scratch, and the portions are a serving to fill you for the entire day. They are a local one of a kind, and I encourage you to come see for yourself how easy you'd fall in love with this speacial relic.

Great hidden gem in the community! Went there twice while in town on business from the East Coast. Service was great except both nights we were given our bills before we could debate over desert (and man did they have some good looking ones.) I got the prime rib dinner both nights (yes, it was that good!) I had it with the deep fried onion haystacks & side salad, then with the baked potato and side salad. Also ordered the mushrooms appetizer. I brought some co-workers out on the second night. Definitely worth going back. Now, I gave 5-stars on the atmosphere because it is a bare-bones mom & pops type of place, and that’s what we were looking for…good local cookin’ with local atmosphere, not upscale snooty stuff. The place was clean as well. Definitely stop in when you’re in town.

We’ve been to this restaurant before, the wait staff was amazing and the food was not great, but good. Very nice small-town-diner feel. Today however our experience was quite different. Our order came out wrong so asked to have it fixed, simple request, simple fix. When the waitress brought our check She was clearly embarrassed and very apologetic. Once we opened the check and looked at it we could see why, it was laughable! They charged us not only for the burger that they messed up, but for the burger that they had to redo and charged us extra for the toppings (ones that came with the burger) that we requested come on the side. After having a little bit of a laugh, we obviously requested to speak to the manager. We were very polite and asked him what on earth this was all about. He proceeded to blame us for the mistake and was just downright rude! It was truly the worst display of customer service I’ve seen in my entire life!. This manager named Chris should not be working with any people let alone be managing a restaurant. I feel sorry for all the girls that have to work with him. Nobody should get away with treating...
