Never again. First I was disappointed by the sparse offering of baked goods, but okay. Maybe an off day. I wanted croissants and planned to take some home, but all they had were frosted croissants. I thought, well, that's different.
Then a lady brought out three warm cinnamon rolls. Great! I thought, there's an awful lot of frosting, but I'll just scrape it off. I chose the one with the least frosting.
While I was waiting for my husband to place his order, I stepped over to the bagel bins. They have quite a selection. Each basket has a cute little wooden tag naming the type of bagel. What kind of bagel is that one, I thought. Hmmm. I reached for a tag. My hand touches the tag so I can see it. Before I have time to read it, I and everyone in the place hear yelling. Yelling, I tell you.
"PLEASE DON'T TOUCH THE BAGELS!"
I jump out of my skin. The tag must be on fire! I let go the tag!
I look to my side. The voice is tearing toward me.
PLEASE DON'T TOUCH THE BAGELS!
Startled, I spontaneously throw my hands up, as if I'm the villain in an old Western.
I'm not! I say. I just wanted to read the tag!
She dodges off to the side. I hear a mumbled, oh-I'm-sorry disappearing into the air. A few glowing words and protests rumble from my throat. There must be an ARMY of startled women down there.
Shook, I go sit down and discover that the cinnamon in the cinnamon bun is way too thick. I can't eat it. My husband says he'll eat it. He eats everything, but not this ultra-cinnamoned cinnamon bun. So, all in all, the visit was a...
Read moreI recently visited The Local Cafe twice for a late breakfast and had a consistent experience both times. I ordered the Breakfast Veggie Sandwich on sourdough, which included egg, tomato, broccoli, and spinach. The sandwich was well-prepared, with fresh ingredients that came together nicely on the sourdough bread. To accompany my meal, I had a cup of coffee, which was decent, and a cheese cupcake, which was a delightful treat—creamy and not overly sweet.
The service was adequate; the staff was polite and efficient, though nothing stood out in terms of exceptional hospitality. The cafe was clean and well-maintained, which made for a pleasant dining environment.
One of the standout features is the convenience of free street parking, which made getting in and out hassle-free—a definite plus for anyone driving in.
Overall, The Local offers a solid breakfast experience with fresh ingredients and a clean environment, making it worth a visit if you're...
Read moreFirst off, I gave it a five only because I couldn’t give it a ten !!! We stopped at the Local to get some wraps for lunch on a Sunday . It was busy and took a few minutes to receive our wraps - not a problem but the staff , so friendly, apologized as they were genuinely concerned about the wait time. Well- it was worth the wait as the wraps were amazing. The ingredients were not only fresh, and I suspect local if possible, but done in just the right proportions to make it taste as one rather than three or four ingredients. The condiments included were done perfectly as well. My wife and I have had many MANY subs, sandwiches and wraps in our day but I can honestly say these were the BEST we have ever had. If you are either visiting or traveling through Bennington vt do yourself a favor and stop by The Local for some food - you will not be...
