Vermont Chef - NYC Style Deli and Market — Restaurant in Bennington

We moved to Bennington from Brooklyn and one of the things we’ve really missed was our neighborhood gyro place and bodega. No longer! Vermont Chef has both covered. They’ve got a wide selection and reasonable prices.

On our first trip, I got the falafel on pita while my husband got the chicken and lamb over rice. Both were delicious, good flavor and texture. The drink cooler had lots of options I don’t see around Bennington, like coconut water with the jelly (little pieces of coconut), which is something I used to get all the time. At the same time, they also have all the usual stuff, deli sandwiches, etc. So it will be a great place for any group that’s mixed between those who want something a little different and those who like the familiar.

It's weird to give all five stars for such a casual place but Vermont Chef - NYC Style deli is EXACTLY what it says it is and it's REALLY GOOD at what it does. Really really good. First off, walking in is like walking into a bodega in Washington Heights. I'm from NYC and I don't lie. Next, the sandwiches are the bomb. In a strange bit of synchronicity (?) all three of our party ordered pastrami sandwiches, though we chose three different variations. There were two regulars, one on a hero and one on a roll, and the other with grilled onions and mustard. I think this is a great addition to our town; the employees were kind and seemed to have stayed open passed their normal hours to accommodate the 5 orders that came in after 7pm. We didn’t know and actually felt bad after we asked their hours. We got the chicken gyro, the green machine smoothie, the summerly smoothie and the captain America sub.

The meat was so fresh and seasoned on both plates. The smoothies were perfectly sweet at the perfect consistency. The curly fries were also just as perfect as could be.

Their store had so much to offer beyond your usual market- including pad locks and aloe juice.
