I thought that it was time to re-review Metro diner. Seven years ago, I was invited here for the grand opening, over the years things have changed and it’s not so grand anymore. I live in the area and have enjoyed coming here, but unfortunately, in the past year, food quality, and availability have declined. The menu changed with Covid and while Covid is over the menu is still tiny with not many choices.
Upon our arrival last night, the normal crew Johanna and Kathy were MIA now there’s some younger waitresses, unfortunately they were too busy chatting with each other and looking at their telephone phones to realize that we sat down. I looked at my fiancé and she looked at me and we looked at the menu, yeah, pretty boring !!! the soup the soup here has been the same for the past five months. you know it’s the same boring tasteless chicken noodle soup and gross potato soup all the soups that are in the world and you serve potato soup !!! they used to have soup that was pretty good but that sense has gone MIA as well and when you talk to the waitresses about the menu, they all say the same thing. “ It’s probably going to change soon “ but not soon enough !!
I ordered the fried chicken sandwich and my waitress said “ would you like french fries “ !! while we’re staring at a big plate of tasteless cheese fries in the middle of the table? Don’t offer anything else that would make sense. The fried chicken sandwich was bland tasteless without any seasoning on the chicken breast, it taste like I was eating cardboard tasteless, and yes Ive tasted cardboard. My fiancé had a chicken Caesar salad, which she said the chicken was bland and didn’t have any seasoning go figure !! You know it’s pretty bad when both you and your fiancé say at the same time that a Wawa pizza would have probably been better. Lastly our unattended waitress offered us dessert. Oh goody, the same refrigerator, tasting chocolate cake, the same boring bread that taste like you’re eating cold cotton we declined.
It’s really sad that this place has stopped caring about its customers and it’s even worse that the menu is still back in the Covid era. It’s no surprise that metro diners customers have declined people want a menu that changes every four or five months people want variety people want tasty food and tasty desserts. it’s funny. This is a diner, but don’t expect to be able to get a milkshake here. I guess the lightbulb 💡 never went on to realize how much money you can make from people ordering milkshakes again rocket science. A restaurant requires having constant innovation to bring in people or to want them to come back, but unfortunately, unfortunately, the staff at Metro diner have given up on innovation and what’s left is the same plain boring tasteless food from Covid. It’s time for a fresh start a fresh menu and some staff that care about their jobs and their...
Read moreI went yesterday, 08/09/2025 with my cousin. I ordered the chicken & waffles and she ordered biscuits with gravy and eggs. I remember vividly telling the server that I want my waffles crispy. When we received our order, my waffle wasn’t crispy. It was soft. I didn’t want to make a big deal out of it so I let it go, but considering I am a patron paying for a service, I should be able to voice my displeasure.
I informed the server that my waffles were not crispy like I ordered. (I do not think she specified crispy/well done when she placed the order.) She immediately said, “well you can’t get your meal for free since you ate half of it.” First, I never said I wanted a free meal. Second, I did not eat half of my food. I took one bite out of a drumstick and ate 2 out of the 4 precut waffle. Technically, that is not half of the meal. Third, how rude and disrespectful to not immediately apologize for your customer’s dissatisfaction. An apology should have been the first thing to come out of her mouth, but she assumed we were freeloaders. I can’t help but wonder if she would have told her white customers the same thing if they expressed their grievances to her. I doubt it. I have worked at restaurants before as a server and I carried myself more gracefully and respectfully at her age but I digress.
I was flabbergasted by her rudeness. I guess she saw my visibly shocked face and offered a delayed and specious apology, but I lost my appetite at that point. Ironically, she probably assumed since we were black we weren’t going to tip so she had an IDGAF attitude, but our bill was $37.06 and I gave her a $13 tip because I believe in tipping and treating people the way I want to be treated. I hope she learns to do the same. I do not remember the server’s name but she was a young blonde.
Subsequently, I went home and made waffles to my own satisfaction which I should NEVER have to do after going to a restaurant. It was my first time and will be my last time patronizing this...
Read moreNote: I visited this restaurant as part of a free Yelp elite event but will include an honest review of my experience I really enjoyed myself! The Metro Diner outdid itself with hospitality and the food was wonderful! I was pleasantly surprised by the portion sizes and flavor profiles. The avocado toast was simple but tasted fresh. I would have loved if they jazzed it up a bit with smoked salmon, a fried egg, or marinated onions. The Davoli burger was incredible. Definitely wayyyy too much for one person but a great way to have a delicious meal AND plenty of leftovers! The two bacon grilled cheeses are a genius way to encase a burger. The meatloaf was a solid classic. The mashed potatoes with gravy were the best part of the dish. I had to finish them even though I was already full by this point. They certainly saved the best for last as the chicken and waffles were a showstopper! Definitely everyone's favorite dish! The chicken was crispy and seasoned well and the waffles were light and fluffy. I was surprised by the creative twists that were added to this Southern favorite like the strawberry butter and spicy syrup. I'm not typically a fan of sweet and savory dishes, but this was truly outstanding. Each element combined perfectly to produce an explosion of flavor! The extensive selection of hot tea and flavored coffee were the perfect way to close the meal. This place is BYOB so I will definitely be back for brunch. So glad I found...
