First time trying the Wood Grill Buffet - great selection. Full salad bar full dessert bar local Southern dishes such as colored greens lima beans okra sweet potato. Extensive meat selections included fish done in a variety of ways including baked fried and deep fried. Steak ham roast beef pulled pork chicken done in a variety of ways sweet and sour chicken hamburgers meatballs spaghetti and meat sauce and deep fried shrimp. Extensive salad bar with all sorts of add-on options. Mexican bar with enchiladas taco chips tortilla wraps and full toppings. Sweet potato regular potato marshmallow and sweet potato casserole, french fries onion rings green beans roasted potatoes and carrots. The list of food is quite extensive. We downgraded the rating from five stars for two reasons - one was because some of the food was dried out ( creamsm corn) and on the cold side (onion rings). The second reason was that the overall dessert Buffet wasn't of best quality- many items were dried out such as the chocolate brownie with frosting, the bread pudding, apple pie and chocolate cake. The ice cream bar was a ice Milk Bar with three options vanilla chocolate and twisted. Toppings were good but the overall quality of the ice cream wasn't very good. Two good desserts were the pecan pie ( both the chocolate chip version and regular) as well what we thought was a chess pie. We did speak to the manager after the fact to give our first time experience and feedback they advise that if they had known they could have quickly made us a fresh batch of french fries or onion rings so if you find this is the case please ensure you ask for to be done. One other thing that we did find was that the servers were very attentive and quick to assist with anything that you might need - please ensure that you tip them accordingly as they work very hard and are especially accommodating. The other thing that we did like is that everything was kept very clean and wiped if there were any messes - many hand stations were readily available for sanitization to prevent the spread of any sort of bacteria or viruses. Please note that the buffet only runs certain days and times and the price very based on those days and times. They do have different pricing for different ages so check accordingly. We did feel that the pricing was very fair considering we went to another barbecue restaurant earlier when passing through Memphis and we're very disappointed in the quality of food as well as the price. Here we had very good ribs and pulled pork for a very fair all inclusive Buffet cost. Double check their website and call to confirm details - we were disappointed only by one other Factor as we thought the buffet said there was catfish but there was only what we were told was tilapia. Fortunately for us it is not an issue as we like that fish but others might be highly...
Read moreI was passing thru late in the evening and decided to stop in. It had probably been about 20 years since I had last eaten at Western Sizzlin, while traveling with my parents in my teenage years.
When I went inside and was seated, I felt out of place for some reason, I didn't feel welcomed, the insides were kinda dark and I wasn't really greeted or anything. I decided to go walk the buffet and see what was on it before ordering. I ended up ordering the shis-k-bob and buffet.
I tried a variety of items from the buffet, but was underwhelmed by the choices. The items I did try were not very good, some were bland, some were cold, and some tasted like they had been out for a while, especially the shrimp and corn boil. The shrimp were tough, and the corn on the cobs had kernels that had shriveled up it, I assume because it had been sitting out a long time. Overall I wasn't impressed by anything I had from the buffet. The shis-k-bob and potato that were not on the buffet I ordered were OK, but still not overly impressive or satisfying.
My waitress only came to my table 2 times during my visit, a different person delivered the steak when it was ready. I remember the waitress because I had a brief conversation with her about my traveling, and where she was from because of her very strong southern accent.
Overall the buffet was very disappointing. I doubt I will return to this location, it seemed like buffet food was bad because foot...
Read moreOk, this was interesting. It wasn't bad. It was just weird. It operates like a golden corral. It is a buffet. Didn't know that when we decided to try it, buy it's pretty simple. Go in , pay, receive your silverware, and find a seat. Everything went smoothly until the finding the seat. We walked around for 10 minutes before we found a table, meanwhile lots of other customers are also walking around doing the same. Some entered before us , some afterwards...and the herds of people never quit coming through the register. At this point it would've been cool to simply be seated by the staff. The food quality is very similar to golden corral also. There was a 20 minute wait after we found our seat before we asked a young lady to be our waitress so that we could get our drinks. It's not a perfect system...the staff was polite and really busy. Waitresses bussing their own tables etc. There's room for improvement, but there always is. Kind of an anxiety inducing atmosphere with everyone running around like chickens with their heads cut off...but I will say the staff was likely doing everything they could do with the amount of customers coming...
