What an incredible discovery we made while in Berkeley! First off, we were absolutely delighted by the setup. You won’t find such a clean, organized, and thoughtfully designed space in any restaurant. The open patio seating features seven pergolas, along with additional indoor seating in a temporary glass enclosure filled with tables. The main area is where orders are taken and food is prepared. Even the restrooms are well-designed and photo-worthy! When a place puts so much thought into its setup, you expect the food to be just as good. We noticed rave reviews about the golden sauce, so we had to try it. We ordered a burrito bowl with golden rice and additional toppings, but I was disappointed that guacamole was added without my request. It costs $2 and should be added only upon request. I wanted to taste the bowl with the original golden sauce, but the excessive guacamole overshadowed it, which was frustrating. We also tried both soft and hard tacos with grilled chicken, fried chicken, and shrimp, all of which were tasty. The horchata was good as well. I wanted to give a five-star rating, but the guacamole issue cost it a point. I didn’t quite feel the hype surrounding the food; it seemed overhyped based on the reviews. However, the food is definitely worth trying. Just don’t expect anything out of this world - it's good fusion cuisine with meat prepared in Afghan style. They also serve Karak Chai. I will definitely return and recommend it to friends. People from India might appreciate the Dhaba-style vibes of the setup. Keep up the...

This is one of my top 3 spots in the bay (others are Gangnam Tofu and A+ Burger). I've been coming here since they were a wee test kitchen and they've grown so much. Look, Arab food and Mexican food go together and this place makes that abundantly clear. The golden sauce on all items infuses strong curry flavors and aromas into the high quality ingredients they serve. Plus, spice level is for you to decide: you can have mild (you shouldn't, you're depriving yourself of joy) or spicy which is a tolerable yet satisfying amount.
Everything they sell is a banger. The meats are spiced middle-eastern style and go with everything. The burritos and bowls are classic items on their menu, and their new ones like the crunch wrap redefine their techniques. Corn in a cup? More like that's what's up. And don't even get me started on the creamy and sweet/spicy sauces they always give, a man can only get so weak 🥵
Finally, to really seal the deal on how great it feels to go here, the dang burrito wrap is gold colored. A golden burrito. You're eating golden...
Read moreWow, delicious. We had this amazing golden curry on our chicken, which added a ton of richness and tenderness, and just a hint of sweetness. They let you choose your spiciness levels, and ours were tasty and not overwhelmed by the curry at mild, but I bet a mild+ or a medium would let that delightful curry shine even more.
They have vegetarian options (which get the avocado added for free), and burrito bowls and burritos and a few other options. The burrito had a perfectly toasted tortilla wrapper, with that Goldilocks zone of crunch and softness.
Wrap all this up with some of the friendliest service I’ve had anywhere, and a cool outdoor setting with a bunch of chairs and tables and umbrellas, and you’ve got one of the best casual eating experiences I’ve had in a while. It is right on San Pablo, though most of the seating is far e ouch in the back that we didn’t have much noise issues, but if you’re super sensitive to noise, you might want to get it to go. It seems like the kind of food that would hold up well to takeout.
Can’t wait...
