Bagel Street Café — Restaurant in Berkeley

We (my mother and I) were visiting Cal on a college tour. I ordered the pizza bagel, which was ok, and she ordered a bagel with egg and some other toppings. The eggs were supposedly scrambled, but they just poured watered down pre beaten eggs from a jug into a plastic container, then microwaved the container and the eggs. In total it was almost $18. Then we sat down at a table and there was water on it, so I went to the counter to ask for a napkin. The woman said “on your tray” without looking at me so I asked again, trying to specify it was for the table and not me. She yelled “ON YOUR TRAY” and walked back into the kitchen. Overall, the service was horrible, the food was mediocre and overpriced and the whole atmosphere felt dirty and off. I have been coming to Bagel Street Cafe in Berkeley for 10 years now and it is consistently my favorite bagel sandwich. I used to buy lunch here multiple times a week while attending grad school at Cal and now have to make it a point to visit when I’m in town. Their sandwiches are piled so high with Turkey an delicious veggies including sprouts, cucumber and pepperoncinis which you don’t often get at other places. The bagels - in a huge range of flavors - are also delicious just with cream cheese! And the owners are so kind - they still remember me even though I’ve only come a handful of times per year for the past 5 or so years. Can’t say enough good things about Bagel...

I would rate this place lower if I could. It was very busy and when I got to the front of the line, and attempted to order the person taking my order was not fully paying attention to me. She was making a sandwich while o was talking to her. I told her that I wanted a large cream cheese(assuming that it came with the bagel) and she said it was in the fridge very rudely. She then asked if I wanted a bagel to which I said yes and that I didn’t know how this place worked to which she cut me off and completely dismissed me.
