I found this place online when searching for a breakfast burrito this morning. Online prices have not been updated, therefore, are misleading, The first thing I did when I walked in the restaurant was go to the restroom. I found it clean, tidy, very presentable and acceptable. The restaurant was also clean and appealing. I ordered the breakfast burrito with the Aidelle chicken apple sausage. I was surprised when it rang up $18.52. The Online Menu listed it at $7.90 plus $2.50 for the chicken apple sausage. The Latino woman who took my order was very courteous, polite and kind. I am a black man so I always appreciate that. She explained to me that the online prices were different and I decided to still try it anyway. I struggled to find anything special about the breakfast burrito and will not be ordering it again. There seemed to be hardly any meat or eggs unless the eggs were chopped up too fine. The meat didn't seem like it was freshly warmed up and may have been prepped beforehand, so I enjoyed it for what it was. It was not the worst burrito I've ever had and I can't classify it as the worst burrito I have ever had but I definitely cannot say it was one of the better ones. It was just run-of-the-mill average. As it did not meet my expectations for the price, but I may come back and try the tacos or the tamales someday, but I already have the best tamales restaurant that the world has ever known, so it's hard to believe they can out-do the La Corneta Taqueria in S..F.. I thought she told me she added on the tip automatically when we were discussing the price of the burrito which is why I opted not to tip when the option came up on the card reader machine when paying. But after I left the restaurant, I looked at the receipt and saw that she had not added on a tip, so I went back and gave her a $5 cash tip. Again, I'm a black man so I always appreciate the courtesy and the politeness and kindness. I would just recommend that people try this place for themselves. But the prices are a little bit above my means. The experience was okay. Thanks. 9/20/2022- I'm UPDATING my review as follows: I went back the very next day on TACOS TUESDAY! I'm not much of a fan of TACOS, but that's simply because good TACOS are hard to find. So, I thought I'd go back and try the tacos. I'm so happy I made that decision. It was really crowded and the line was out the door but I got my order reasonably fast. I tried three tacos for $8 bucks + a $2 tip. One steak, one grilled chicken, and one pork . Apparently, they don't cut down the portion size just because you're getting them for $2.50. I remember noticing how the take out box felt so light and so I wasn't expecting much, but when I opened it up, they were so generous with the portions that I kept saying to myself (as I was eating them) how I felt like I was getting my money's worth. No body can make tacos like my oldest daughter, and she's an African American woman, but these tacos come in a close second. I now know where to go when I want great Tacos on a Tuesday. I really really enjoyed the tacos. I'll keep the four-star rating that I gave them but I'd like to give them four and a half stars now, but that's not an option. So thanks again. I will see you again. MUCHOS AMOR and your pastries look "to die for " but I'll have to try them next visit. But if I see dogs inside the restaurant, I probably won't come back. There's a reason for that law-...
Read moreWent this evening to get some bread. We've been here several times over the years. We love their burritos and bread. This evening we saw a man with a dog sitting in his lap inside the restaurant. He was petting his dog in his lap. It was not a service dog. I asked the female cashier if they allow dogs inside. She said sure, just anywhere is ok. I said, no there is a man with a dog inside. I was bringing that to her attention. She said that the owner allows dogs inside. I asked what his name was so I could talk to him. She said she couldn't share that (bizarre response). I asked if he was here. She said no but from her previous responses it was obvious she was not being honest. I asked the cashier next to her if the manager was in, the man standing next to that cashier said he was the manager. That was awkward. So I asked to speak to him.
The conversation basically amounted to the owner saying that the restaurant was "dog-friendly". (The restaurant only has indoor seating and no outdoor patio area). I informed him that only service animals were allowed inside restaurants that serve food. That did not seem to phase him. He repeated that they were dog friendly and that everybody was happy that way. He then added that if I did not like that then I don't have to visit the restaurant. Clearly a very immature and irresponsible attitude.
He stated that he was the manager and that his name was Oscar Sanchez. I will contact the health department to bring attention to the...
Read moreI remember this place from back in the day when it had more limited menu selections, but now that it has been reborn as a taqueria, and Mexican restaurant, all I can say is. W.O.W. Though I didn't plan on it, I hit it on the nose and walked in here on a taco Tuesday and the tacos are $2.50 each, and they don't skimp at all. All. I decided to try the works and got one of Barbacoa, one of Pollo Asado, one of carne asada, and one of what they call heritage carnitas. Now let me just lay it down here. Heritage carnitas are the kind of carnitas that I like above all others. Soft and moist with bits of fat, absolutely tender to the bite, and full of pork flavor, these are the kind of carnitas you would find in Uruapan, in Michoacan, Mexico, at one of the stands like Los hermanos olivos. The Barbacoa, was incredibly tender, reminding me of perfectly cooked "Ropa Vieja", a Sauteed, slow cooked Cuban skirt steak, and the amount of meat they put in every taco as I said before was impressive. I got called away before I could finish the other two tacos, so, rather than review them at home after reheating them I decided to go back down there later this week and I will give you guys another review then. But all I can say right now is, that this place is an absolutely solid taqueria and Mexican restaurant, with a really nice staff and located in the flatlands of Berkeley and Easy to access from just about anywhere. Highly...
