I went here last week and ordered a bowl of congee, egg rolls, and steamed pork buns. The total for this dinner cost $21.94.
As I leave the place, the owner at the door comes to me and points to the receipt asking why I didn't pay a tip. Obviously, the charge of the food is a bit high to be asking a college student to be paying 3$ more, for service that consisted of him handing me the food from the kitchen. I'm not saying restaurants that do just don't deserve a tip, but I'll be frank that this interaction did not deserve 3$. I ate the food in under 15 minutes and expected to leave without a problem. Until he stopped me at the door, and began yelling at me why I didn't pay him an extra $3 for service. I am standing there awstruck, as he's lecturing me as to why this tip is mandatory. Obviously, if the service was anything but him handing me food, I'd consider it. But when you're grabbing your clients at the door as they leave and begin yelling at them about not respecting the restaurant, you have to ask yourself: why would I ever come here again. Don't worry, he doesn't want me back either, but I guess next time he should just be upfront. Just charge 3$ more for food. I'm sure people will understand why $24 for Dim Sum in Berkeley makes...
Read moreLet me preface this by saying that I've gotten Yin Ji ever since it first opened and have been continuing to every week 2-3 times, and I'm so disappointed in their attitudes toward customers.
This is the worst experience that we've got so far. We made an order on Snackpass, and when we got here to take our order, they got our order wrong, and we have to wait for another twenty minutes to get the order but they've got an item wrong.again.
In picture 1, there's a mushroom rice noodle, which should've been the pork corn noodle in picture 2.
That's not the worst part. When we first came in, they told us to wait for the order to be remade. While we agreed and wanted to sit down, the woman behind the counter prevented us from sitting at a table and motioned for the seats for takeout with such a harsh and bad attitude it's like if we owed her.
Then the second time I walked it to get the order correct again, the guy at the counter took it in, no apologies, and the woman came up and said "sorry" half-heartedly and then they moved on to do their own work. I stood at the counter to see if the guy would make apologies or offers but he didn't even bat an eye at me the...
Read moreVolume / rush hour can perhaps justify The fact that they forget your presence/ food being late, but can not justify the waiter on purposely seat you to a seating area while you clearly requested window seating and window seating is wide open, it also does not justify that the waiter simply is rude by humiliating the customer by yelling at the them. The frustration is mainly because of the rude attitude from one waiter/owner(?), and clearly he yelled at All customers without discrimination (my friend can literally heard him yelling over the phone).
Never received discount based on my bill. Obviously the owner is still not sorry after receiving several complaints below and is only pretending to be sorry on google review. If you want pay to get humiliated, come here.
Plenty of good restaurant/competition offer the same good quality food with moderate price in Oakland area. This restaurant’s price is slightly above regular Chang Fen place so their selling point is definitely the Berkeley location and the experience, given the experience is horrible, no selling point and worthless to...
