I love the area and I generally think this park is nice and convenient.
My issues are more with the resident/dog owners that frequent this park. There are TWO dog parks. One for large and one for small dogs...but often ill see a little chihuahua or Yorkie in the large dog area. That's dangerous for the small dog.
Too often owners are on their phones or chit chatting NOT WATCHING how their dog is socializing. Too often aggressive dogs are being brought in without a muzzle. I get it...every dog needs outdoor time and exercise...but if you know your dog is unpredictable and snippy and you plan to bring it to a public area around other dogs and let it off leash...come on now.
Sometimes owners let their dogs play too rough with dogs that are a stranger to their dog. I had one rough house my puppy and when I put a stop to it a guy let me know that's just how his dog plays and while i understand that...there's a time and a place.
The dog park is a time for socialization between dogs so they can learn the dos and don't and so they can engage in SAFE play. No, i don't want someone's dog dropping mine by her neck and then biting down when she tries to leave.
I now just leave when there are too many dogs coming in or when a fight breaks out which has happened the last 3 out of 5...
Read moreI recently had the opportunity to visit Ohlone Park, and the experience left a lot to be desired. Unfortunately, the park is neglected in terms of maintenance and upkeep. The grass is overgrown, and there is litter scattered throughout the park, giving it an unkempt and unattractive appearance. Moreover, the facilities are in quite a sorry state and are in dire need of renovation. The restrooms were not only dirty but also emitted a terrible odour, making it an unpleasant experience to use them. Additionally, many of the picnic tables and benches were broken or vandalized, detracting from the overall appeal of the park. The playground equipment is also a cause for concern, as it appears outdated and unsafe for children. Rust and missing parts rendered the equipment potentially hazardous, which is especially problematic considering that the safety of children should be a top priority in any park. Furthermore, the supposed scenic areas were marred by trash and neglected landscaping, adding to disappointment. In light of these observations, I conclude that Ponderosa Park fell short of living up to its reputation as a pleasant outdoor retreat. Until significant improvements are made, I would not recommend this park to anyone looking for a clean, enjoyable, and safe...
Read moreA great park...it once was...Today, little kids run on the field amongst heroin needles and homeless who spread their trash everywhere. In the kids mini parks, inside Ohlone...a man entered with his pants missing and smoking a crack pipe. Police can do little as the Mayor, City Council and Homeless Zealots allow this filthy behavior in a city that tries to look the other way out of kindness but gets this behavior in return....Oh, and yesterday, a homeless man's pitbull almost attacked a 3 yo tot ..near miss...
There is a great dog park, but dog owners allow their dogs to roam, defecate and disturb a activites everywhere and fail to put their dogs on leashes...We spent so much money on a dog park and we still get this behavior.
Muggings in broad day are common, sexual assaults and what not.. but don't tell the city...shhh..let's paint murals instead of increasing services and police patrol funding...
My daughter was assaulted here while she jogged at 3pm...Police took a report and case closed; homeless man who attacked her and stole her fanny pack continues to be in the park. Ohlone.
For reference, I live across the street and moved in I 1995....its getting worse and...
