Lalo's Restaurant — Restaurant in Berwyn

I have been coming to Lalos since I was a kid and have never had a problem and never had any complaints, I’ve even catered their food for parties I’ve had but today they have lost my business. My husband and I went there a little after 4 pm. My husband got steak with cheese and pepper (which he liked). I got the carne asada dinner. I told her I wanted it cooked medium. As soon as the server brought it out I cut into it and it was rare. I told my husband I’d deal but it was so rare I was struggling a bit to cut into it and when I got to the center it was bleeding. I didn’t make a big deal about it but just asked the server if she could have them cook it to the medium temperature like I had asked for. The server didn’t give me a problem and took it back. She came back and it was burnt. Noticeably burnt and charred. So, I told my server to take it back. No manager came to our table nothing. Not that I was looking for free food but an apology or something or atleast for the manager to be aware. We paid the bill and proceeded to wait for the host to let her know to tell the manager because I thought maybe the manager was to busy. This manager (who must have been new) walked up to me and asked me the problem. As I begin to tell her she said she was aware of everything and saw that the original steak was rare but told me she witnessed the second steak being taken out and claimed it was not to me liking. My husband was even shocked that she phrased it as such because he was even looking at the steak funny. I told her I won’t be back and she didn’t care. Right on the spot! another rare 5 stars all around! Entering lalos is so magical! it feels like your entering a Mexican hacienda in a home welcoming villa ♥️ I absolutely love a good scenic environment that is clean and has relaxing music that isn’t overbearing to eat over like other Mexican restaurants. It really a gives off a romantic evening in Mexico. The glass stained art on the wall adds so much class such a unique touch. The staff here is absolutely happy and attentive informative about the menu and making sure refills and condiments are always at reach. Gabriel our waiter was amazing! Made us feel happy and at home! I really love that each table gets a fresh chilled jug of water with clean silver ware and cups and the chips and salsa are to die for ♥️ the queso fondido with chorrizo and a side of tortillas was a delicious appetizer and not to mention that soup they give you with lemon such a great wholesome broth. We ordered two steak Zamora plates that wear the headline 5 stars delicious and truly meets Mexican heritage quality food. As a picky critic this place is a hidden gem with a great abundance of a variety of menu that is customizable for everyone! This place is great for family time, date nights, friend nights. They even have a bar with a killer margarita🍸make sure you’re not driving bc it sneaks up on you. It is so rare to find a Mexican dinner experience without over bearing loud music and real decor touches this place thought about everything. Please don’t go to this restaurant. A group of 7 went to the restaurant and we all ordered food. We noticed the menu had changed, and it was not crowded on a Saturday how it usually is. Everyone knows the restaurant is usually packed on Fridays and Saturday’s. This was one red flag!

We ordered food and I didn’t like the food. I ordered two steak tacos and one chicken. The tacos tasted like they had been sitting under someone armpit all night and had no flavor whatsoever. I told the waiter I didn’t like the food and tastes really bad. She asked if I wanted something else which at that point I denied because the kitchen was closing in 5 minutes. I didn’t want to risk getting another bad plate. She was like okay no problem.

When someone goes to a restaurant and send food back, do they think they will be charged? Absolutely not. When the bill came we asked the waiter to remove the taco dinner that she took back. We were told no!

One lady (worker) stayed “there was nothing wrong with the food, so we can’t take it off your bill” we were shocked! They took the food from the table and to the kitchen. Please note I took one bite out of the steak taco and one from the chicken taco… nothing else had been touched.

Out of all the times I have been to a restaurant including this one, I have never been told such a thing. The entire table was shocked!
