This place is unreal.
I ordered from Mikes about a year ago, but at the time thought nothing of it. The calzone was AMAZING as well as the Chicken Kabob salad. I thought the flavor and style of the calzone and salad must be "normal", that all shops make them this way. WAS I WRONG OR WHAT!
Whoever is in charge of proportions at Mike's is a saint. In our case, the salad and calzone is loaded with whatever it comes with/you ask for. Not loaded enough where its too much, but a perfect balance of satisfaction. Even the quality of the lettuce is superior to other pizza/salad shops around the area. Want to know how I know?
Bring it back to the first time I ordered from Mikes (about a year ago). For whatever reason, I mixed up "Mike's" with another rhyming name pizza shop in the area. The calzone was completely different. It looked like it was a calzone with no dignity. Scantily clothed with little chesse, crust too thin on the top and bottom that the whole thing just falls apart when you lift it up, overdressed with buffalo sauce, I was disappointed to say the least. Weeks later I tried another shop, same thing. The salads/calzones were barely garnished, but also with the long stringy pieces of romaine that is found at the top of the head of lettuce, yuck. I thought I would never get that perfect calzone or pizza again...
BUT I happened to see Mikes again on google maps and I had finally realized I had been mistaken this whole time! God finally answered my calzone prayers!
I don't want to leave a review of the calzone or the salads from the other place(s) I have ordered from since, but lets put it this way. The amount of effort I am putting into this review should speak LOUDLY about the higher quality food from Mikes. I am so excited over a calzone that I am genuinely worried that perhaps I have gone off the deep end.
Its just... Every other pizza shops calzones fall apart when you pick them up. There are distinct layers between the calzones, and they dont mend well. But at Mikes? It all stays together, the cheese flows between the layers, the calzone has the great fluffy bread/crust but also has that bite on the bottom and edges.
I get the Buffalo chicken calzone and ask for broccoli, feta, and red onion in it. It is amazing. My wife gets the chicken kabob salad, its loaded with chicken, feta, red onion, sliced carrot, and a few other things.
The crazy thing is I typically eat this every few Friday nights, having hockey the following morning. I don't get heartburn, indigestion, nothing, and I eat about 1/2 of the large the night of. Every other place I ordered from gave me heartburn and indigestion that lingered for the following day.
But at Mikes?...
Read morewent with my boyfriend to grab dinner, but after a very long day of driving around and no sleep, we decided to sit down for the first time inside of the restaurant. after placing our order as well as paying, we obviously had sat at a table together, by sitting across from each other. there were many things completely negative, wrong, and disgusting about this trip. the first order i placed, i was told it was available at the time, and we had also asked that our food come out at the same time. not only did my boyfriend receive his food before me, but it wasn’t until the moment his food came out that they decided to finally tell me that my choice for my order was unavailable. so therefore, i would have to make a different choice in a meal, which isn’t a big deal if they could have told me that in the first place. he tried to wait for me so we could eat together, but i didn’t want his food getting cold, and thankfully i convinced him to begin eating without me because i didn’t even get my food served to me until twenty minutes after he finished eating his entire meal. next, there’s the fact that when i had gone to the bathroom, not even thirty seconds after i locked the door, i had a woman who continuously tried to walk into the locked door. she kept pushing on it, wiggling the handle, and screaming at me in spanish every time i told her to “please wait a moment”. when i came out, she pushed her shoulder into mine with her nose in the air as she walked into the restroom, and this woman wasn’t a customer. she was an actual real worker acting this way! the last thing i’ll talk about, even though there was much much more, is going to be drawing back to the first point i made. when i finally got my food, it was only because i had a feeling i had seen it up on the shelf waiting to be delivered to me. i was correct of course because it wasn’t until my boyfriend asked what was taking so long, that they finally decided to check and see if it was witching the wall of food they had come out. now, i’ve worked in restaurants of all sorts of types, i get how they run and understand completely that things can get extremely busy at times, but there was only one other group, of four people, in there other than us and they didn’t have many deliveries to take care of. mikes was absolutely ridiculous!!!!!!!! don’t even...
Read moreMy husband and l brought our grandchildren to lunch after playing at Lyons Park great playground, hibiscus and beach. The staff was very patient as the grands figured out what they wanted to eat and read the contents of the potato chips and beverages as part of their hunt for healthy choices. (This is a family game…that started after Grandpa had a heart attack). The grands thought it was terrific that all the employees were named “Mike” as evidenced by the fact all the uniforms said “Mike”.
Our grandson loved reading the captions on the silenced TV game show.
The food was good and better yet, there is a playground next to Pizza Mike’s. We wondered if we could find out the softball schedule. We would be able to lunch and watch a game out of Pizza Mike’s side window.
There is the BEST Dollar Store in the same little plaza. We bought a few school supplies and B. Is going to ask her Mom to return to shop for her birthday party next week.
B. thought Pizza Mike’s and the playground would be a great place to have a birthday party if next week’s party was not set for Plum Cove Beach in...
