I went to Big John's for lunch 2 days in a row while performing jury service. I had never been prior to my first visit. I am hyper critical of BBQ establishments because they can't compete with my own BBQ and most of the time they get 2 or 3 stars. For context, a famous BBQ establishment in Driftwood TX only garnered 1 star from me.
Big John's is different - This place is busy and the lot starts filling up before they open at 11 am. 2.They are big on service! You won't die of thirst or need anything as often as the staff come by to visit you. The portions are between perfect to oversized. Their BBQ: it is clearly made to appeal to as many palates as possible, not much of a smoke ring on the brisket plus it was a tad on the dry side, their jalapeno sausage had almost no smoke flavor at all but was very flavorful. Would have been dynamite with a smoke flavor profile. The "Crack" - it appears to be a cream cheese base with a bunch of seasoning and jalapenos? Maybe? Personally, I did not care for the condiment because it took away from the taste of the food it was added to, but a lot of others had to have it and raved about it. A Fried Hamburger! This was really good!, not overcooked and fun to eat - the staff will ask if you want "all the fixins" and if you say yes, you're going to get a pile of lettuce, tomatoes and onions to make a separate salad. And a dump truck full of French fries as the side. BTW - Their coleslaw is top notch too! The little custard dessert at the end is a real slap to the back of your head - I never saw that coming. Excellent palate cleanser before you leave.
If you have not been - please go. It's really half experience and half food. Together they make it a 5-star experience, but the BBQ for me brought it down to a 4. ...

I scoped this place out, looked at reviews and photos from other people and thought this was going to be an excellent reminder of home and a good place to just relax and enjoy something delicious. I thought I was gonna cry the onion rings were barely breaded nothing like the golden ones in people's pictures. The chicken fried chicken was extra extra crunchy you couldn't even enjoy it, I had to take the batter off of it and just eat the chicken. So we left disappointed that evening. So I gave a 4 star review because we went back Wednesday, for lunch this time, and lunch was great the deep fried bacon cheeseburger was amazing and huge. Fresh bacon, fresh bread and did I mention huge, cannot emphasize that enough. The onion rings were spot on this time hot, fresh, golden and delicious. The chips, salsa and queso are really good, wasn't sure how I felt about the salt and pepper being already on the chips but it's ok, shake it off. So to finish off our lunch the waitress brought us millionaire pie, it was fantastic. The perfect little treat to finish off a wonderful lunch. The staff is very friendly and super attentive, you'll never run low on your drink. Big John's feed lot is a great little nook and I would definitely recommend it to anyone, just not for dinner, just in my opinion, I don't feel like you'll get the full experience in...
Read moreWe were in town for the day for work and decided to stop here. The brisket was great, now very close to the top of my list of favorites. For my personal tastes I would have preferred if they had a greater variety of sides as none of the options really fit my tastes but this is a common problem for me. I ended up choosing french fries and those were amazing, cooked perfectly in my opinion. I don't usually enjoy french fries very much but these were great.
The staff were all exceptionally friendly and we never had to wait for refills. Our waitress answered all of our questions perfectly and our food order was correct and arrived very promptly.
Prices were reasonable and portions were large. My partner got the all-you-can eat ribs and enjoyed them a lot; I expected them to be low quality and to have to deal with slow service for re-orders like with most other all-you-can-eat "gimmicks" but this was definitely not the case here.
I've had a lot of bad luck trying new restaurants lately but this place was a great exception. We will definitely stop here again next time we're working...
