I am new to Billings and looking for some local places to have breakfast and lunch. Today I decided to try out Red Rooster Cafe. Two people from Billings recommended it. I was in a good mood. Tried to be pleasant. Commented to the waitress that it was my first time there. It was 6:30am and when I went inside, there were 3 other tables that had customers. (maybe 6 people total) I ordered coffee. Asked for some cream and the waitress just pointed at a bowl of creamers on the table. I had not noticed it there among the other various things on the table. OK, my bad. Then I started to read the menu. I needed a few minutes to decide and there were a lot of choices, and finally, keeping it simple, I ordered two eggs, bacon, hashbrowns and biscuits.
The coffee was good. I thought my food was taking quite a while. The waitress brought my food and I immediately noticed the plate was cold. I tasted the eggs, they were cold. The potatoes were cold. The biscuits were hot, which was good because the butter was frozen. The waitress did not come back to check on me or ask me if I needed anything. I did not eat any of the breakfast except the biscuits, and one piece of the bacon. Waitress brought my bill and told me to pay at the front. She still did not ask if everything was ok, even though I obviously was not eating the breakfast.
When I paid the bill, she did ask if my breakfast was Ok. I told her some of it was Ok. At that point it was not worth telling her about it. I paid my bill and left the customary 20% tip.
I was not impressed with any part of The Red Rooster Cafe. My experience there told me that if you are not one of the regular customers you should go someplace else. I know that sometimes a small place can get very busy and maybe the service or the food slips a little for that reason, but that was not the case...
Read moreMaybe if I had ordered different food I would have liked it more. Overall my experience was lackluster at best, and disappointing at worst. With the 4.6 rating I was expecting something much more impressive.
The service was okay. It was my first time in and there was no clear direction on whether to seat myself or wait for a server. I had to wait a few minutes for the one server to come out from the kitchen. She ended up being quite nice and timely. However she was a bit naggy towards the end of my meal, coming by every few minutes. I was just browsing my phone and finishing my orange juice :( She also didn't explain how I needed to pay, just dropped the receipt off with no acknowledgement.
The food was definitely sub-par. I ordered oatmeal, an english muffin with jam, sausage patties, and orange juice. The patties were burnt on one side, but edible. The orange juice tasted good, but very pulpy for my preference. The english muffin was entirely inedible; hard as a rock. The homemade jam tasted okay, nothing special, but looked weird - almost like jello. Maybe the fruit it's made from is something that I'm not used to...
The oatmeal was the only good thing I had. It was cooked with raisins and came with a side of milk and soft brown sugar. It could have been better with more raisins or served in a bigger bowl so it didn't spill over when mixing...
Read moreHello locals of Billings and travelers from who know what soils. I am a traveler and a bit of an expert when it comes to breakfast. I like a classic breakfast of medium over eggs with hashbrown and a side of meat, usually bacon and sausage. And a plate of pancakes or waffles. In this restaurant, I ordered a meat and eggs plate. With an upgrade for extra meat called side pork. And the pancake itself was an upgrade too. I can assure your that everything is delish. The side pork have me rattling because it look like a very thick bacon but the taste is something else. After a few hard mins, I discovered that the side pork is very familiar to pork chop. The pancake is very fluffy and taste just right, not too sweet nor dry. The eggs was unique. It have a different texture of yellow color for the yolk. I figured it was either duck eggs or very organic eggs. I ask the waitress who work there and she told me that thier eggs is supplied by hutterite company. Owned by an Amish community. I believed if I heard that right, thier eggs are superb and the breakfast as well. Enjoyed...
