I work in the area so I gave it a whirl. A good whirl. After my 5th time eating there, I vowed I'd never do it again. The service is poor and I'd rate it a 1/5. They're not very friendly and seem to hate their jobs when you go in to pick up food. It's as if your presence is "inconveniencing them." They obviously don't get that without customers, they're out of the job. Either that, or they're just lazy. You have to ask every time for a fork and napkins... sometimes they're feeling generous and put it in the bag for you, sometimes they're feeling lazy and tell you to get it yourself. Sorry, but am I expected to eat this sesame chicken with my hands? Which brings me to the food. I'd rate it a 3/5 at best. Rice is dry. Chicken tastes like it has feathers or fingernails in it and leaves you with some gross heartburn. The one thing I did like about the chicken is it's very Americanized... the farthest from authentic I've had in any Chinese restaurant... which was kind of to my taste. The way they box their food is terrible though. They're not "on the go" friendly at all. You get chicken loaded into a box, and then a small to-go box with your rice so if you wish to combine the two and you don't have a plate readily available, be prepared to make a mess. They portions are generous for the price though. 2 out of 5 stars is a generous rating I say. Put some care into your business, and try a little harder not to despise your customers. I'm always smiling, friendly, and I tip a dollar plus change which is hardly a small tip for someone to throw your food in a bag and ask if you want sauce.
Also, their open sign is usually off and the place always looks closed 2+ hours prior to the actual closing time, as if they're trying to drive people away. This place reeks of laziness and bitterness. I've been a cook for 8 years. Get a grip.
Quick reply to the guy below that said it was too expensive though: $10 for a pound of chicken and a half pound of rice is not expensive. Either a cheapskate or has never worked in the restaurant industry. The portions are extremely generous...
Read moreI have made two orders in the past two days from a neighborhood inside Keesler AFB (Late evening meals). In both cases my food arrived in a timely manner, 45 minutes as estimated for me . The food was still very hot, and also delicious. So far I've only ordered the beef fried rice and Bourbon chicken (I usually use these items to gauge the skill of a Chinese restaurant, since they're fairly simple), and both have been exceptional among the many other Chinese takeouts I've had in other states. The portions are decent, amounts you'd normally encounter from Chinese takeout, and they've provided me with soy sauce and utensils every time so far. The female on the phone was polite and easy to communicate with, and the delivery boy was very capable in delivering on time. After eating at a few other Chinese restaurants, the Bamboo Chinese restaurant especially, I'd have to score this a 3 and would only recommend it if you want something delivered near or on the Air Force base. I may order more things from them in the future and may edit this review...
Read moreI am visiting from California. My son was just transferred to Kessler. We wanted an inexpensive but fast meal and decided to eat at China Garden based on recommendation of a young lady at a nail salon. I'm glad we gave it a try despite the negative feedback I read about the restaurant. The facility was very clean and service was great. I had Kung Pao chicken and my son had General Tso. Both were freshly prepared quality dishes with good flavor. My son opted for fried rice which had a good amount of plump shrimp. I was surprised because in other restaurants the shrimp is always tiny and only 2-3 in a serving. I am not usually a fan of Chinese because I am sensitive to high fat foods. I had no problems with this meal. Don't believe the negative reviews! I am not easy to please when it comes to the taste of food eating out and I have no problem recommending China Garden. It was much better than the pricey seafood lunch we had that...
