The customer service was good in that they greeted me when I walked through the door and answered the questions I had about the menu (it was my first visit). The prices, however, are astronomical for a sub place. One combo cost me over $15. (I could've gone to a restaurant and had a sit-down meal for that kind of money. Anyway...) Granted, it was the Philly steak, but $10-something for the sandwich alone, especially on that terribly skinny sub bread? It was just too pricey. But maybe I'm just used to Subway's huge sub bread. Now, the taste was good but the meat didn't seem up to par. I don't know what it was about it, but I know there must be better quality steak out there for a sub sandwich. I never had a taste of "deli mustard" on my cheese steak sandwich before, and it seemed to kick the flavor up a notch, so I'll give them that. The brownie that I chose to add along with my drink to make up my combo cost an extra 40¢. I felt that was a little petty and as though it was one more way to nickel and dime the customer, but at least they told me before I decided to get it. Just check your bag before you leave, because I did and found that they hadn't even put my brownie in my bag. I had to go back in to get it. Anyway, overall, it was ok; not great, not bad, but ok. Will I return? No, unless they decide to lower their prices, which...
Read moreWent in on Sunday, August 16th at 12:00 and was treated very rudely by the girl behind the counter. I ordered a medium hook & ladder and a small club on a sub, both with a side salad to go. Got in my car and looked in the bag and there was only one salad. Went back in and asked about the missing salad and without acknowledging me, immediately starts talking to the girl next to her, then yells out at me that "SHE DIDN'T RING YOU UP FOR TWO"! then she walks over to the register and says "THIS REGISTER ONLY TAKE CARDS, YOU HAVE GO TO THIS ONE"! Then looks at the girl at the other register and says, "RING HIM UP FOR A SIDE SALAD"! when I finally get the salad, there were a few things that didn't make it in. When I asked why the two salads look totally different, she snaps at me saying "ALL SHE FORGOT WAS THE CHEESE"! I said ok. She then snaps at the girl "PUT SOME CHEESE IN THERE AND PUT ONE DRESSING IN THERE BECAUSE THAT'S ALL THAT GOES WITH IT"! Got home with my order and there were no forks, napkins, or dressing in the bag at all... This was very unusual for this location as I've never encountered such a rude young lady. Sometimes it not what you are saying, but the tone you are using that is very off-putting... cute little black girl with twigs in her hair...
Read moreMy go to place for a hot sub. Well Firehouse and Newks. Both are great and completely different from each other.
Firehouse is a traditional sub-type sandwich shop. Hot, fresh, well prepared, customizable submarine sandwiches with top quality ingredients that are quickly made to order and brought to your table. A definite eat in sandwich shop because heated subs are going to get soggy in the drive home if you must travel any significant distance.
I visit several times per month and have done so for a couple years. Over that time one thing I have noticed about Firehouse is that compared to a lot of quick food restaurants, Firehouse has better employee retention . Oh, and the prices haven't really crept up over time.
Sign up for their rewards program will earn you a free sub. And the review website on the receipt is good for a free medium drink with your next purchase.
PS: I hear Firehouse is adding a location in Gulfport. If true, it will...
