Unfortunately, we choose to eat here after reading the over-hyped reviews and reviewing the menu online. It was our first wedding anniversary so we were rather picky on where to go while visiting Longwood Gardens. To our disappointment the menu was different then the one we viewed online. We overheard a waitress telling what seemed to be regulars that the menu recently changed, and that the kitchen was really backed up. Shortly after mulling over the menu and finally making a selection, I noticed an ant crawling on our table. We were sitting inside, on the SECOND floor. I wasn't so bothered until another one came along. Our waiter, Ian, finally came over. We actually were waiting for him to refill our drinks but he came at the perfect time to complain about the ants as one crawled out of the sugar packet holder. We moved tables, as what should be expected in this situation and I'm sure he could tell I was annoyed. He actually avoided us from then on, which is NOT what you should do to customers who experienced a problem. Our food came. My husband's steak and frittes was more frittes then steak. It should have come with a vegetable at least, for the smaller size of meat with such a high price. He was pleased with his dinner, but by no means regarded it as filling. My dinner, which was a the Free Bird Farms Chicken Breast prepared in a beurre blanc sauce was breaded. That's right, BREADED AND FRIED! It did not say this on the menu, nor was it suitable for such a dish. It was disgusting and so was the beurre blanc. I barely touched it and my husband even disliked it. Our waiter avoided us. He never checked on us after we received our meals and walked by us, stood by us plenty of times. My dinner sat basically untouched and we waited and waited for our check. Finally when the waiter came over, he didn't even ask how our dinners were because clearly I was unhappy and not eating. I had to tell him I was disappointed and did not like my dinner. Thankfully, they took it off the bill. We left feeling hungry, annoyed, and ignored. This was one of the worst restaurant experiences I...
Read moreMy husband and I just left after the most amazing dinner. It was a home run for every single aspect of our experience. The decor and atmosphere makes you feel like you're at a family friend's house--subtle lighting, neutral tones with a pop of color in their fun arm chairs (also so comfortable). The tables are close but not too close--our neighboring table was so sweet and recommended the sheet cake for dessert (our bellies were perfectly full but definitely next time!) Danielle was our waitress and so sweet, attentive, funny and gave wonderful recommendations. The rest of the staff were also so welcoming, friendly, and helpful. Brandon also stopped by our table and just made us feel comfortable and at home.
My husband and I love to try all the things so we ordered 1 snack, 2 first courses and 2 main courses. On the way out we truly couldn't decide which was our favorite. We had the house made chips and dip and who knew chips and dip could be SO good. Next was the tuna crudo and dill Caesar salad--OMG. The tuna crudo had the perfect blend of citrus vinaigrette, jalapeños, cucumber and fresh tuna. I did not know that I would love a Caesar dill wedge salad so much. I think I'm going to have dreams about it--and in place of croutons were again, the homemade chips! Phenomal. The short ribs literally fell off my fork--Danielle said they were cooked for 12 Hours and after eating them, it shows. The smash burger might be one of the best burgers I've ever had. Perfectly cooked & seasoned and everything came out piping hot.
We had a few drinks but by far both our favorites was the "Almost delco" and being from delco I couldn't love the name any more.
Don't walk, RUN to The Pear!! We can't wait to come back. A truly memorable and exceptional experience....
Read moreI have not yet been to this restaurant, but I'm already giving it 5 stars because one of the owners, Jim Barnes, and an employee named Dan really came to my rescue this evening. I somehow caught my tire on something very sharp and it tore multiple holes through the entire side of a tire. I managed to drive to the closest gas station I could find, but the owner could not help me. Fortunately, a customer stepped outside and quietly called an employee and asked him to come out and help me change my tire. He did this without telling me and then asked that I wait for his employee to come over and help me with my tire.
The damage to my tire was so extreme that it took a lot of work to get it off my car. The whole time, Dan patiently explained how to jack up my tire, how to get a stuck tire off, and how to put on the donut. Now I know what to do if this ever happens again. Even though I should know how to do such things, Dan never made me feel dumb.
I had no money and there was no ATM at the station, so all I could do was thank both men from the bottom of my heart. I don't know what I would have done without them because I was far from home and it was getting dark.
I plan to go to Jim's restaurant and thank him and Dan again for their quiet generosity. If the food is anywhere near as wonderful as they both are, I know I am in for...
