I rarely go downtown, but saw this restaurant after I left Wale concert. It was so pretty from the outside. I had never heard of it, so I thought that this would be a good location to have our January's ladies night. I called to see if they could sit large parties and if they have a happy hour. They were so nice on the phone, and was happy to accommodate my party. The day of the ladies night, I was looking for parking. I didn't realize that the restaurant was in the hotel. I asked the valet where did we need to park. He was very courteous and gave us the option of parking in a free parking lot next to the hotel or we could pay and park in the hotel's deck. Of course we chose free. We walked into the hotel and was awe struck at how beautiful it was. We took the stairs down to the restaurant so that we could take in the beautiful decorations. The hotel has a beautiful chandelier. When you walk down the steps they have a lounge area. The building is very pretty and you can take really good selfies. As we entered into the restaurant were greeted by the sweetest hostess. She was looking forward to our party arriving. They were having a cooking class, which interested me. She begin to explain all the different classes that they offer. I will be signing up for one of those classes. Christian our waiter walked us to our table. He was very kind and knowledgeable of the items on the menu. He suggested that a good drink to try was the blazer. This drink was not what I expected. It was so pretty. I was excited of how the drink was displayed. I had just seen a drink similar to this online being served at a restaurant in ATL, and wanted to try one. I couldn't believe that we had a restaurant here that served it. The drink was a bluish green and it started to smoke. It was very good, sweet but strong. We sat by the bar and the bar tender was very sweet. For dinner I got the burger and fries. The burger was seasoned to perfection. It came with wickles (sweet and hot pickles). Their fries are really good and their ranch tastes as if it was homemade. I really enjoyed myself. The decor of the restaurant is very nice. They have long hardwood tables with outlets that you can charge your phone while you are eating. I highly recommend that you...
Read moreI've learned not to get my hopes up from a hotel kitchen. The majority of the time, you'll get a passable meal that let's you get to sleep in your frozen room. Maybe the soup was tossed in the jukebox to heat it up. Maybe your veg was boiled in bags. The Lab Bar and Kitchen was none of the above on this particular evening. I called in near closing time for a take away, ordering the Blazin' Burger, as well as the chips and queso. Back of house could have easily phoned this one in, and I would have ate it anyway, no complaints regardless. They did anything but. Hot side absolutely nailed the burger. Two patties cooked medium, inching toward medium well, and juicier than you'll get on that CharBroil you overpaid for at Homie Deepoot. Just spicy enough with it's pepper relish and jalapeño aioli, but in case you were left wanting, they provided every condiment imaginable in the bag. Give hot side a raise. The thick cut spiral fried potatoes were crispy on the outside, and soft on the inside. These may have even been bag fries, I honestly don't know. But they were fantastic either way. Give fryulator side a raise. The chips and queso was a perfect app to front this. Simple bar food that you've had a million times, but served hot and executed well. There's a chance they fry those tortilla chips in house. If so, please don't stop. They held up to the heavy and flavorful queso dip without a flinch. Give cold side/ apps a raise. If you had one human in the kitchen tonight, triple their pay. Again, it would be so easy to just throw some food in a box at 20 mins to close and call it a night, but I received a meal that absolutely makes me want to come back. And regardless of the preparation method of all of the above, someone who puts that kind of effort in to an app, burger, and fries deserves to be paid a more than fair wage. Front of house staff couldn't have been nicer, both on the phone and in person. They were wonderful, as well. Pay...
Read moreI went to this restaurant because I was staying at the hotel and got in pretty late and needed dinner. I ordered my food and was told to come pick it up in about 30 minutes. I show up 30 minutes later and me and this man are just sitting in the completely empty restaurant for close to 20 minutes with not a single worker in site. A worker comes out and then give food to the man. I then get my food and as I walk down the hall I notice that it doesn’t smell like something I’d order. They definitely gave me his food and gave my food to him. At this point, I had already signed the receipt and tipped. I go back and she realizes that it’s not the right food. She said they’ll have to make it again and would actually deliver it to my room - which was very nice. I was told that they would reduce my bill by 50% due to the inconvenience. I got my food another 30 minutes later, and the food was just okay. The grits on the shrimp and grits was poorly cooked and very clumpy. The sausage tasted like it had gone bad. Their cobbler and fried green tomatoes were pretty good though! Anyway, I’m home now from my visit and checked my credit card... I was charge the original food cost... not the discounted 50% cost. The management of this restaurant is very poor and there should never be a completely empty restaurant with no workers in site at 8pm when they close at 9pm or later. The restaurant has a lot of potential, but they need to make sure the workers do their job instead of standing in the kitchen and laughing for 20 minutes while customers are waiting...
